Politics: Max Headroom: Harry Reid knows how to fire a shotgun


  • symbolic showdown On “Fox News Sunday,” Republicans Marco Rubio and Charlie Crist had a straight-up debate over the Florida Senate seat they both want. Crist is a moderate. Rubio is the Tea Party’s Great Cuban Hope. Part 1 is above, but the other two parts are also worth watching.

  • “Lamestream”? What?Sometimes, Sarah Palin says mean things towards people she doesn’t like, and yesterday’s epic Tea Party Woodstock thang yesterday was no exception. Palin used the not-nice phrase “lamestream media.” If she becomes president in 2012, her four years are gonna suck.

  • So, where was Harry?Harry Reid was the (negative) focus of the Tea Party event in Searchlight, Nevada yesterday, but he wasn’t around. Instead, he was at an NRA event, shooting off a gun, just in case he needed self defense when he tried to go home later that night. Better safe than sorry.

He does so well with it that even Republicans can get behind him on it. 37 percent of self-identifying GOP members and 50 percent of indie kids (er, independents) back him on the issue. In the case of Republicans, who give him no better than 15 percent on many major domestic issues, that’s pretty good. So, yeah, this visit to Afghanistan is really good PR for him right now. source

U.S.: Obama leaps over Senate’s head, issues 15 recess appointments

  • I simply cannot allow partisan politics to stand in the way of the basic functioning of government.
  • President Barack Obama • Regarding the recess appointments that he pushed through today. The appointments are only temporary – they can only serve through the end of 2011. But he was at the point where he needed to do something, due to the immense amount of gridlock in the Senate right now. 217 of his nominees are currently waiting for confirmation, 34 of them over six months. The Republicans fought against this, but it’s not exactly an uncommon thing he’s doing – George W. Bush also had 15 recess appointments at this point of his presidency. At the end of their eight-year terms, both Bush and his wipe buddy Bill Clinton had over 130 each – Bush more than Clinton. source

  • Scott Brown said Rachel Maddow was running for Senate. Brown said this in an e-mail designed to raise funds for his next Senate campaign. However, as this Boston Globe full-page ad notes, she’s in fact not running for Senate. Julius may be, though, if his residency checks out. He’s on the Lyndon Larouche ticket. source
