World: Sarkozy says he’s not fit to lead European Commission or Council

  • I don’t think I have the qualities to be a good European Commission or European Council President.
  • French President Nicolas Sarkozy • Responding to a reporter’s question about his political future at an EU summit in Brussels, Belgium. The French president’s future came into question because, with elections next month and polls showing him in second, it’s possible this could be his last appearance at an EU summit. Sarkozy also voiced his support for recently re-elected European Council president Herman Van Rompuy, saying “I am sure I would do it less well than him.” source

World: Tell us how you really feel: Sarkozy, Obama rip Netanyahu on hot mic

  • Sarkozy French leader Nicolas Sarkozy, at the G20 economic conference last week, had what he thought was a candid exchange with Barack Obama when he said this about Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu: “I cannot bear Netanyahu, he’s a liar.” Damn.
  • Obama In an effort to sympathize with his diplomatic friend, Obama reportedly responded like this: “You’re fed up, but I have to deal with him every day.” While press officials heard the conversation, it seems unlikely that there was a recording of the (amusing) exchange. source

World: France: Gaddafi isn’t Libya’s leader anymore. These guys are!

  • France recognizes the National Council as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people. There will be an exchange of ambassadors between Paris and Benghazi.
  • A spokesperson for French President Nicolas Sarkozy • Revealing that France now considers the opposition government, the Libyan National Council, the right one in Libya. This is a big step, considering that France is a major player on the political stage. It hurts Gaddafi further. So, who’s next? source

World: Yikes: French prez Nicolas Sarkozy rushed to a hospital

  • He was running and got a little faint. Sarkozy, who as European presidents go, is one of the healthiest (and depending on your persuasion, buffest), fell ill while running today and had to go to the hospital. Sound scary? Well, yeah, it kinda is. Word is that Sarkozy suffered from a vagal nerve attack, which can change the heart rate and cause a brief loss of consciousness. So yeah; sounds scary, but it’s likely he’ll be OK. source

Offbeat, World: Obama wasn’t peeking a glance at some hottie. Sarkozy was.

  • You know the scene. Obama gets passed by some hot girl at G8’s summit in Italy, and a photo makes it look like he was totally catching a glimpse of the lady (who happens to be 16, by the way). Fortunately, video evidence proves otherwise. However, the evidence totally implicates French president Nicolas Sarkozy. YES!source
