Biz: Peace out, Ann Arbor: Borders to close its original location today

  • Borders used to be chockablock with books. It has increasingly looked less like a bookstore than a bowling alley, with its wide-open spaces. Now they’re selling children’s dolls on the front counter. It’s really pretty grim.
  • University of Michigan history professor Jonathan Marwil • Discussing the fate of Borders, the Ann Arbor-based bookstore chain which will close its first Ann Arbor-based location Monday. We’ve been saddened by the fate of Borders, an iconically-great example of the bookstore where you get sucked in for hours, but one whose fate was sealed by being extremely late to the game with the Internet. *SOB* We’ll miss you. source

About: We’re taking a break for a couple of days. Be back soon.

  • We love you guys, but we need a break. We’ve been posting on ShortFormBlog for over a year straight. The last day we missed was Feb. 2, 2009. And well, we have a good flow. But for purposes of our own mental health, we’re taking a break starting tonight, lasting until tomorrow, likely to be broken Sunday morning (something about a health care vote) and unbroken until Monday. We love you guys, but we think our posting quality will go up after a day or two off. (thanks Columbusneon for the image) source
  • Edit: We plan on posting today (Sunday, March 21) about nothing BUT health care. Everything else (including Ben Folds doing Chatroulette, which is hilarious) is off-limits today.

Biz: We won’t use the “short circuit” pun with this Circuit City story

  • Oops, we just did. Anyway, their last day is today. The former mega-retailer, once a formidable force in electronics retail, just spent the last month and a half liquidating. They gave themselves until March 31, but finished early. So tonight, the lights go off for the last time on the retailer that wanted to be Best Buy, but wasn’t as good. source
