Offbeat, U.S.: Obama’s “Oh-mama”-in-law is adapting to D.C. life pretty well

Marian Robinson, Michelle Obama’s mom, had never lived outside of Chicago before she moved into the White House, and left for the District “kicking and screaming.” She did yoga! But she wanted to help her grandkids get settled, so she moved. source

Now, three months in, Robinson is savoring her life as a D.C. socialite – she’s out and about nearly as much as her kid, “so much so that sometimes we have to plan our schedule around her schedule,” Michelle joked. No word on if she’s still doing yoga. source

Biz, U.S.: Obama holds no love for Chrysler-bankrupting hedge funds

A group of investment firms and hedge funds decided to hold out for the prospect of an unjustified taxpayer-funded bailout.
Barack Obama • In comments about today’s epic Chrysler chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. Further sticking the knife into the hedge funds and investors, who dispute Obama’s claims, “They were hoping that everybody else would make sacrifices and they would have to make none.” • source

Obama covered a ton of ground during his speech, specifically touching on the economy, Arlen Specter, the elusive promise of bipartisanship, swine flu, Iraq and the dynamics of getting things done in D.C. U.S.: 100 days: Love him or hate him, Obama gets stuff done

1. He pushed through an epic, massive, $787 billion stimulus plan that was successful but managed to divide Democrats and Republicans in congress.

2. He signed 19 executive orders and 12 bills. (That’s a lot for 100 days.)

3. He moved diplomacy in a kinder, friendlier direction, particularly with Cuba, Venezuela and Iran.

4. He moved to stop controversial Bush administration policies, including putting in motion processes for ending the war in Iraq and shutting down Gitmo.

5. He finally got a freaking dog, an instant photo op if there ever was one. And it certainly beats the alternative.

Culture, U.S.: Fox officially thinks Tim Roth is more important than Obama

For the last few months, Barack Obama has made more addresses on live TV than networks are happy with, because those addresses cost them lots of advertising revenue. Then again, Obama doesn’t really care about that when there’s a financial crisis and SWINE FLU PANIC OMG going on. source

For Obama’s address tomorrow night, Fox has waved its middle finger in the air and decided to ignore the address, choosing instead to go with the Tim Roth drama “Lie to Me.” Some will say Rupert Murdoch has political reasons for this, but we think he’s just a prick. source
