World: Bangkok dangerous: Don’t go to Thailand capital, U.S. and UK say

  • Yes, the fighting has gotten that bad. About a month ago on Twitter, we noted the painful irony of Thailand promoting tourism on our site in the wake of the Red Shirts saga. Now it’s reached the point where two major Western nations have basically told its citizens not to go to the city. We hope the best for the country and its deteriorating political situation, but outsiders should heed this call. source

Culture: Your eyes might bulge after hearing how David Carradine might’ve died

  • Startling reports Carradine, whose death was initially reported to be a suicide, got a bit more complicated with reports that he was hanging by his genitals as well as his neck, in what might have been an act of autoerotic asphyxiation.
  • What is it? Autoerotic asphyxiation, for those of us a bit more pure and with sensitive ears, involves preventing oxygen from getting to the brain to improve sexual pleasure. In case it sounds like playing with fire, it kind of is. Protip: Never do this. Ever.
  • Historical contextCarradine would not be the only one to die of this way. Former INXS singer Michael Hutchence was widely believed to have died in a similar way when he was found dead in his Sydney, Austrailia hotel in 1997. source

Culture: David Carradine was found hanged. Was it a suicide?

  • His family is in shock. They have the same belief we have. There was no way David did this to himself.
  • Tiffany Smith • A representative from Carradine’s management firm, Binder & Associates. Carradine, the iconic martial arts actor (who actually didn’t know anything about it until his role in “Kung Fu” but later became a huge advocate), was found naked and hanged in his hotel room in Bangkok, Thailand. Many early reports speculated that it was suicide.  • source
