Offbeat: Dumb idea: A Chrismas card with an iPhone – and app! – inside

  • Whoever gives a Christmas card like this for a friend or family member needs to consider exactly how high they’re setting the standards for Chrismas now and Christmases to come. Not only is the card super-expensive, but the app they’re using isn’t even free.

Tech: Not news: Apple does something stupid with the iPhone app store

  • Are these caricatures offensive? Apple seems to think so. And poor Tom Richmond’s got hundreds of hours worth of hard work wasted thanks to the decision. Richmond, an illustrator, helped design a political app called “Bobble Rep” which shows every member of congress (even poor non-vote-getting Eleanor Holmes Norton!), or 540 (!) in total. And Apple rejected the app because they said Richmond’s drawings could “be considered obscene, pornographic, or defamatory.” And politics isn’t even the issue – the app is non-partisan. Worst decision Apple’s ever made? Maybe.source
