Politics: Halter, who goes there! Blanche Lincoln has competition in Arkansas

  • He’s a Democrat, but wait, so’s she! Bill Halter, the Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas, just announced a Senate run. He’ll be running in the primary against Blanche Lincoln, whose poll numbers are sagging at the moment. Lincoln, by the way, voted for the health care bill, but was one of the moderates who pushed against the public option. Halter, a former Clinton staffer, seems more likely to support health care based on this video. source

U.S.: Christmas gut-punch: Salvation Army major killed in front of kids

  • My heart goes out for the family, losing their dad, and I guess having to witness it during this time of year. It’s definitely going to be hard on the kids.
  • Pulaski County Coroner Garland Camper • Regarding the death of Salvation Army Maj. Philip Wise, who was robbed, shot and killed outside of a Salvation Army facility on Christmas Eve in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The sick bastards who did this were attempting to rob Wise, who had been active with the Salvation Army for 16 years. Awful. In fact, beyond awful. source

Politics: Bill O’Reilly plays Larry King to Mike Huckabee’s soft-pedal needs

  • Well, at least he found a sympathetic ear. Can we criticize Bill O’Reilly for shifting the blame from the former Arkansas governor just as much as the former Arkansas governor does it himself? He straight-up tells Huckabee, “It’s not your fault.”

U.S.: How various states failed at keeping Maurice Clemmons jailed

  • Arkansas The parole board recommended to Mike Huckabee that Clemmons fit the profile for early release, so he released him, in part due to the fact that Clemmons was jailed at 17.
  • Washington Clemmons moved to the state after getting off on robbery charges in Arkansas, and was released on bond for child-rape charges just six days ago. source

U.S.: Mike Huckabee has a coffee shooter albatross around his neck

  • Should he be found responsible for this horrible tragedy, it will be the result of a series of failures in the criminal justice system in both Arkansas and Washington state.
  • Presumptive 2012 presidential candidate and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee • Regarding coffee shop ambush person of interest Maurice Clemmons, who he granted clemency in 2001. While it’s too early to call Clemmons a suspect, if he turns out to be, he could turn into something of a Willie Horton – except much worse, due to the attention the case is getting – for Huckabee. source

Politics: Senate update: The Democrats have 60 votes for health care!

  • Although I don’t agree with everything in this bill, I have concluded that I believe it is more important that we begin this debate to improve our nation’s health care system for all Americans rather than just simply drop the issue and walk away.
  • Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln • On her reason for agreeing to allow the Senate bill to go to discussion. Her move gives the Democrats 60 votes. Reminder: This is only a vote to discuss health care. None of the moderate Democrats have agreed to a final vote, just more discussion. source

Politics: The Religious Right’s having a reunion this weekend. Remember them?

  • We have been on a slippery slope since 1973, since we decided it was perfectly okay to terminate the life of a healthy unborn child.
  • Former Arkansas Governor (and presumptive 2012 presidential candidate) Mike Huckabee • Describing the moral climate of the country at the Family Research Council’s Value Voters Summit. The Religious Right will probably be the key voting bloc for Republicans in 2012 if they have any chance of beating Obama – a fact likely proven by both John McCain‘s loss last year and the party’s current disarray in comparison with their strength eight years ago. • source
