World: Amsterdam’s airport says Nigerian terror suspect passed security

  • Was he checked? Yes, Dutch authorities say Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab went through security checkpoints. In fact, they note that Nigerian travelers go through strong security when flying because of fears of fraud.
  • What was the weak point? From the sound of things, airport security could not detect the materials on him because they weren’t made of metal. Which means that we’re going to start seeing full body scans soon. source

U.S.: Trying to bomb a plane: One of the dumber ways to celebrate Xmas

  • UPDATE: THE passenger was trying to blow up the flight. Today, at the Detroit Metro airport, a flight that was headed from Amsterdam to the saddest metro area in the country ended when one of the passengers tried – and failed – to set off a firecracker-like device on the plane after landing. Fellow passengers stopped the attacker, who was reportedly Nigerian, had Al-Qaeda ties and was on the no-flight list. source

  • We suddenly descended a great distance as if the plane fell into turbulence. The plane’s tail hit the ground. It slid from the side of the motorway into the field.

  • 50+ people were injured, 25 seriously. 127 passengers were on board the Turkish plane. source
