Biz, U.S.: Let’s pour a 40 for the Craiglist “Erotic Services” section

  • It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday’s erotic massages. After much prodding from attorney generals across the country, not to mention the terrible PR of a guy labeled the “Craiglist killer” killing massage therapists all over the Boston metro area, Craigslist is finally getting rid of one of their most, uh, popular sections, the “Erotic Services” section. It’ll be replaced with a moderated adult category which we’re sure is going to put massage therapists working out of sketchy hotel rooms out of work. source

Biz: Amazon is really, really, really, really, really, really, really sorry

  • This problem impacted books not just in the United States but globally. It affected not just sales rank but also had the effect of removing the books from Amazon’s main product search.
  • Andrew Herdener • An Amazon spokesperson on what he calls a “ham-fisted” cataloging error which blocked a bunch of gay-themed books from the main search and pissed off Twitter. Biz, Politics: Amazon apparently doesn’t like gay people anymore

  • one Author Mark R. Probst noticed recently that the sales rankings for his gay-themed novel plummeted on Amazon.
  • two He inquired with Amazon’s staff, and learned from a rep that they had deemed his book (and books like it) “adult material.”
  • three He wasn’t alone; other “adult” books include “Brokeback Mountain,” which became an Oscar-winning flick.
  • four So now the Internet is in an uproar/frenzy, and the mainstream press seems slow to respond. WTF, guys? source
