  • See, the police did a familial DNA search. That method, rare and fairly controversial, tied DNA from a convicted relative of Lonnie David Franklin Jr. Why? Because they deemed the case a major public threat. The 2008 California law that they used was fought to no avail by civil rights activists. State attorney general Jerry Brown said the arrest was proof the law works: “Although the adoption of this new state policy was unprecedented and controversial,” he said, “in certain cases, it is the only way to bring a dangerous killer to justice.” source

  • If at last he is freed — not in the way we wanted, because we wanted him to restore his good name, but it is difficult to do it given our judicial system — at least he will be freed in this way. If he leaves today, it will happen quietly.
  • Lawyer Anna Stavitskaya • Regarding her client, Russian scientist Igor V. Sutyagin, and his possible pending release as soon as today. The scientist, currently being held for treason in Russia, will be reportedly exchanged for ten reported Russian spies as part of a prisoner swap. The U.S. and Russia have neither confirmed nor denied it, although it’s been widely reported and Stavitskaya says Sutyagin verbally agreed to the exchange. source

  • In our constitutional system, the federal government has pre-eminent authority to regulate immigration matters. … The nation’s immigration laws reflect a careful and considered balance of national law enforcement, foreign relations, and humanitarian interests.

If the law leans Obama’s way, it’s a big victory for him; if it leans Arizona’s way, it’s a HUGE victory for states’ rights. Too early to call this one, but it’s going to set a huge precedent no matter who wins. source
