Sports: Bad kind of irony: Steve McNair was shooting an anti-suicide PSA

  • Obviously, never is a good time for that ad to air. The former Tennessee Titans quarterback, killed last weekend, was working with Tennessee health officials for the ad, but it hadn’t reached completion. The murder-suicide nature of the attack, now agreed upon by authorities, really doesn’t do that ad any favors. How unfortunate. source

Sports: Manny being unloved: Dude got ejected from a Dodgers/Mets game

  • I didn’t want to throw even more fire. I just walked away. I only play five innings, so I was leaving anyway.
  • L.A. Dodgers superstar Manny Ramirez • On his loud and brash exit from a game against the New York Mets. Angry after getting booed non-stop by Mets fans, he threw his gear and ended up getting ejected from the game, but not before driving in three runs and helping the team win 8-0. Ramirez, easily the Dodgers’ biggest star right now, just returned from a 50-game suspension for use of banned substances (which may or may not be steroids, by the way). • source

Sports: Tennis star Mathieu Montcourt found dead in Paris

  • The timing was a little odd, by the way. Montcourt, who died in this sleep, just began a five-week suspension from the sport for betting on games. The player, ranked 119th in the world, thought the punishment was too harsh – he bet a total of $192 on 36 tennis matches back in 2005, none of which were his own, but was fined $12,000. That said, it’s still bizarre that he was found dead at that juncture. source

Sports: Steve McNair’s friends: It was like a scene from a movie

  • The situation? Pretty scary overall. Shot to death with a semiautomatic pistol, Steve McNair’s death was ruled a homicide, but police have yet to decide one way or another on the death of Saleh Kazemi, his 20-year-old girlfriend killed by a single bullet. The scene was found by two of his close friends, one of whom, former Alcorn State teammate Robert Gaddy, called 911. “It was like something you might imagine seeing on TV or in the movies,” said Gaddy, “but never imagine you would see it firsthand, to have that happen to someone you love. I am still shook up.” source

Sports: Federer on his impressive record: “one of the greatest ones to have”

  • It feels amazing but this is not why I am playing tennis, to break all these records but it is definitely one of the greatest ones to have.
  • Superhuman tennis god Roger Federer • On his impressive win in the Wimbledon finals against Andy Roddick today. He’s a record-holder! Beyond winning his 15th Grand Slam title, the final itself took 77 games to finish – which was an impressive match of wits, but took for-freaking-ever!!!! Congrats to Roger, and we’ll try not to forget about you when football season begins. :) • source
