$150,000amount owed by national Tea Party organizer (and Top Conservatives on Twitter cofounder) Michael P. Leahy – you didn’t think to pay that? source
The problem with the setting was that it didn’t scale and even if we rebuilt it, the feature was blunt. It was confusing and caused a sense of inconsistency. We felt we could do much better.
Twitter Creative Director Biz Stone • On the actual reason Twitter removed that @replies feature the other day – functionality was only part of the reason. The real reason is that there was some technical stuff that was slowing down the site. (And as users of the site’s search function, we’ve noticed. Sigh.) Now, everyone’s just a little ticked off and Twitter forgot the lesson that they should know better than anyone else – people complain on Twitter a lot, and honesty is the best policy. • source
Sykes, during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, made a joke about Rush Limbaugh that was so harsh it managed to peel the paint off the walls. source
Robert Gibbs, the White House Press Secretary we dig, criticized her, saying some topics “are better left for serious reflection rather than comedy.” source
If I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I’d go with Rush Limbaugh. My take on it was Colin had already left the party. I didn’t know he was still a Republican.
Dick Cheney • Discussing the verbal to-do between Colin Powell and Rush Limbaugh. Cheney and Powell have worked closely together over the years but have become more estranged since the first George W. Bush administration, a point accented by Powell’s support of Obama in the last election. Cheney’s had a recent history of this, by the way. • source
I think Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker but he was just so strung out on OxyContin he missed his flight. He needs a good waterboarding – that’s what he needs.
Wanda Sykes • Who managed to bring back some of the edge of Stephen Colbert’s routine a couple of years ago to the White House Correspondent’s Dinner. She took jabs at everyone, Obama included. No offense to Rush Limbaugh, but we’d rather hear rips on him than see awful Bush impersonators. • source
Clearly, attitudes about gay people have changed in New England. I mean, they must have, right? Or was the region always more accepting in general despite my personal experiences?
PlanetOut columnist Carter Todd • Discussing what, to him, is a bizarre evolution of the gay marriage debate. Todd grew up in New England and did not believe the region to be particularly gay-friendly nor particularly open about its sexuality, and in fact found Boston to be not gay-friendly at all. So he raised the question to his readers: Why New England? • source
A good number of people have been disappointed by us today. Why? Because they found our site on Google using the phrase “Rihanna nude.” Now, it’s bad enough that the pop star is now all over the Internet in nude poses, but considering the amount of bad buzz following the star this year, it does scream a degree of kicking someone while they’re down. But much like Paris Hilton a few years ago, a bunch of guys (and hey, maybe girls) are looking for purely exploitative kicks. Not to criticize too harshly, but aren’t there other things you could be looking for on the Internet instead? source
The action was clearly well-paced. Abrams did a good job of keeping you on the edge of your seat. It was easy for non-fans to get into, while having winking cues for die-hards. source
Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, in particular, did justice to the original parts. Even Simon Pegg, who doesn’t physically resemble James Doohan, was well-cast as Scotty. source
We expect “Star Trek” to be just as revered as “Iron Man” was last summer. It’s a fun movie that goes broad without losing its street cred. Good show, J.J. Abrams! source
The effect of this capital assessment will be to help replace uncertainty with transparency. It will provide greater clarity about the resources major banks have to absorb future losses.
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner • Making an argument in the New York Times as to why the banking industry stress tests were necessary, even though they made Bank of America look like the worst company on the planet to hold your money. Jeez, if only he did this a few months ago when everyone hated him for sucking at his job. • source
What Colin Powell needs to do is close the loop and become a Democrat instead of claiming to be a Republican interested in reforming the Republican Party.
Rush Limbaugh • Complaining about Powell’s comment that the Republican party is in deep trouble, and would be better off without the radio-show loudmouth. Limbaugh also disliked Powell’s support of Obama. • source
