Politics: Jim Bunning has no problem blocking unemployment benefits

  • The senator reportedly said “tough #*@(” to another senator criticizing him. Last night, the lame duck Senator (and former baseball star) complained about missing a basketball game because he wanted to block extending unemployment benefits that much. He’s the only Senator holding up the bill. Why? He says that there’s no way to pay for it. Come on. This is NOT the bill to be playing politics on, man. source

Politics: Obama gives Dick Cheney a “get well soon” call. Awwwwww.

  • last week Dick Cheney, while speaking at CPAC, calls Obama a one-term president, which seems like kind of a mean thing to say.
  • this week Dick Cheney, while sitting at home resting after a heart attack, takes a call from Obama, who was nice enough to offer well wishes. source
  • In other Cheney news: The latest article in our continued working relationship with AOL News is about Cheney, actually. We compared his heart ailments to Bill Clinton’s in terms of sheer popularity in both the media and the social media. Who won? Find out here!

Politics: Obama takes John McCain’s liver and throws it across the room

  • Man, Obama said this as if he had been waiting since the end of the presidential election to get this specific rip in on John McCain. Overall, we feel like Obama held his own in a tough crowd. Besides this, the best moment of the entire day was Obama telling Eric Cantor where to stick that huge pile of paper – a moment we can’t seem to find on YouTube, sadly. Was this mess productive? Of course not. But now Obama has his free pass to ignore them and pass the bill anyway using reconciliation. Thanks for being not helpful, right.

Politics: We imagine John Kerry feverishly working on a climate change bill

  • Senator Reid made it clear to me the other day that he wants a bill and he wants it soon.
  • Sen. John Kerry • Discussing the possibility of a climate change bill just in time for the sting of the the health care bill to wear off. He says he plans to have a bill within the next two weeks, which we imagine he’ll be writing at the very last second, asking Professor Reid if he can get an extension on because he tripped on a ketchup packet and sprained his ankle or something. source

Politics: Health care summit: Everyone’s obsessing over the furniture

  • Because, honestly, that’s the big issue on everyone’s mind. Perhaps it’s a symbol of how much is riding on Thursday’s health care summit at the White House that it’s even even an issue, but Congress is having a hissy fit over the layout of room. “We’re not going to have members [of Congress] sitting in staff seats,” said one aide over the idea of legislators sitting at “the kiddie table.” Harry Reid’s aide compared the fracas to the interior design diplomacy that took place during the Paris peace talks near the end of the Vietnam War. We swear this isn’t an Onion story. source
