Politics: Health care summit: Everyone’s obsessing over the furniture

  • Because, honestly, that’s the big issue on everyone’s mind. Perhaps it’s a symbol of how much is riding on Thursday’s health care summit at the White House that it’s even even an issue, but Congress is having a hissy fit over the layout of room. “We’re not going to have members [of Congress] sitting in staff seats,” said one aide over the idea of legislators sitting at “the kiddie table.” Harry Reid’s aide compared the fracas to the interior design diplomacy that took place during the Paris peace talks near the end of the Vietnam War. We swear this isn’t an Onion story. source

Politics: Here’s what that baby-killer Scott Brown said about the jobs bill

  • It is the first step in creating jobs, not only for the people of Massachusetts but for the people of the country.
  • Sen. Scott Brown • Regarding the jobs bill, which passed a test vote 62-30 with bipartisan support, including a vote from Brown himself. Twitter conservatives are currently having a fit because the bipartisan turn seems to have been exactly the opposite of what they were expecting from Brown, who is moderate. Shall we stone him now or stone him later? source

U.S.: Ex-John Edwards aide Andrew Young better give back that sex tape

  • Young was put in contempt of court today. Andrew Young, Edwards’ right-hand man in the midst of the politician’s sex scandal, has a sex tape that Reille Hunter, the other woman, wants. While Hunter had a temporary restraining order against Young, he wouldn’t give the tape back. Now he’s in contempt of court, but was not jailed, just reprimanded. If he gives the tape back by Wednesday, he’ll be golden. Will he? We’ll see. source

Sports, U.S.: Curt Schilling in Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat: Why the heck not?

  • I do have some interest in the possibility. That being said, to get to there from where I am today, many many things would have to align themselves for that to truly happen. I am not going to comment further on the matter since at this point it would be speculation on top of speculation.
  • Former Boston Red Sox star ace Curt Schilling • Discussing a potential Senate candidacy on his blog, “38 Pitches.” It’s one of those things that makes some roll their eyes, until you consider that some really great politicians – Jack Kemp (Bob Dole’s running mate in ’96!) and Jim Bunning – came from pro sports backgrounds. So, why the heck not? He may not have the political clout of Ted Kennedy (and his far-right conservatism might make him a long shot in Massachusetts), but he may be good at the job.  • source
