Culture: TMZ sez Michael Jackson’s spokesman, his dad, is getting nothing

  • The reason? Joe Jackson beat him as a child. Michael Jackson was the king of the dysfunctional childhood, becoming famous and having to deal with very rough family dynamics at an early age. According to his will, he never forgot it. He left his will to his mom, children and charity, but apparently didn’t leave his father, Joe, a red cent. Perhaps Michael wouldn’t want his dad speaking for him. source

Culture: Note to Twitter: Rick Astley didn’t die in a Berlin hotel room

  • Known for his 80’s pop hit “Never Gonna Give You Up,” the 43-year-old Rick Astley has been pronounced dead today. Astley’s body was found at the Angleterre Hotel in Berlin after an ambulance responded to an emergency call from his hotel room.
  • A CNN iReport submitted by John Manker • Saying that Rick Astley died. The attempted death pool Rickroll, perpetrated by image forum, 4Chan (whose members often go by “Anonymous” and are often involved in pranks), is an out and out lie. Just so you’re aware. • source

Culture: Debbie Rowe sez being Jacko’s surrogate mom … like being a horse

  • I was just the vessel. It wasn’t Michael’s sperm. Just like I stick the sperm up my horse, this is what they did to me. I was his thoroughbred.
  • Debbie Rowe • Explaining to quality publication News of the World why she has zero interest in raising the two kids she had with Michael Jackson. Gee, when you put it that way, why wouldn’t you want to raise Jacko’s kids? • source

Culture: Joe Jackson: Where was the Michael love when he was alive?

  • I wish the world had recognized him when he were living. Right now he’s bigger than ever. But I wish he was here to see all this, to hear all this.
  • Joe Jackson • Michael Jackson’s dad, on the death of his son and the huge torrent of response the superstar has gotten posthumously, including at the BET awards, where Joe discussed his son’s life. It’s true – ultimately, the child abuse allegations took the swagger out of Michael’s step, and it seems like we forgot about what we had when he was still alive. We blame ourselves. Sorry, Joe. • source

Culture: Grown-up kids of gay parents say they’re normal, well-adjusted

  • You can imagine what my parents thought when I was 13 and listening to Rush Limbaugh everyday. But my family had strong family values. I was raised in a loving, caring household that let me be a free thinker.
  • Republican activist Jesse Levey • Who grew up in a household with two lesbian mothers, but ended up becoming a perfectly normal heterosexual male. Despite his party’s overarching stance, he thinks his parents should be able to marry. Levey, of course, is not alone – lots of children of gay parents grew up to be perfectly normal. By the way, in this article, a guy who admits to having no experience with gay families, Dale O’Leary, is quoted as an expert. He’s shilling his book, “One Man, One Woman: A Catholics Guide to Defending Marriage.” Here’s our question to you: Is this balance, or just a hilariously misguided attempt to get the other side of the argument? • source

Culture: Jesse Jackson: Michael Jackson’s first autopsy wasn’t good enough

  • Jesse Jackson, speaking for the family, says they want another one. Jesse (no relation) has been in close contact with the family and visited them yesterday. “It’s abnormal,” he said. “We don’t know what happened. Was he injected and with what? All reasonable doubt should be addressed.” Michael, of course, was rumored to be addicted to prescription medications. His body has been released to the family, but there’s no word on whether a second autopsy has taken place yet. source
