U.S.: Obama sez he jumped the gun on those Cambridge arrest comments

  • I think I unfortunately gave an impression that I was maligning the Cambridge Police Department or Sgt. Crowley specifically, and I could have calibrated those words differently.
  • President Barack Obama • In a statement where he sorta took back lots of the stuff he said about the arrest of scholar Henry Louis Gates in Cambridge, Massachusetts. If you forgot, Obama said the police “acted stupidly” and pointed out that minorities are stopped more often by police, which kinda stirred a lot of s*** up and managed to overshadow that entire prime-time health care press conference.  • source

World: Hamid Karzai is a big no-show in televised presidential debate

  • If he can’t face the nation then he obviously has no plans for how he will govern for another five years. He has to explain what’s gone wrong in the country.
  • An Afghan translator • On Hamid Karzai’s absence from the country’s first ever televised presidential debate. His excuse? He still hasn’t published his platform and, well, the TV station hosting the event is biased anyway. Understandably, a lot of people were pretty choked and opted not to watch.  • source

Outrage followed. So today he said sorry, and added that it was a reference to the movie (and guy) “Valkyrie.” He explained: “I appreciate those who wanted to assassinate the mad dictator.” source
