World: Scandal-plagued Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi in a sue-happy mood

  • We have instructed our colleagues to evaluate, according to the laws in their countries, the most serious cases of real, true defamation.
  • Silvio Berlusconi’s lawyer, Niccolo Ghedini • On the decision to file lawsuits against media outlets throughout Europe that have published defamatory articles against him. Considering that Berlusconi owns a number of outlets himself in Italy, wouldn’t it be really funny if he accidentally sued a paper he owned? • source

World: The Dutch don’t want 13-year-olds to set sailing records

  • Laura Dekker wants to sail around the world, solo. The 13-year-old could become the youngest person to sail around the world by herself, but she won’t if the Netherlands’ Child Protective Services has its way. A court just granted custody of Dekker to the state, who freaked out at the idea of letting someone so young hang by themselves for two years. Stupid state ruins everything neat. Dekker, by the way, is really more Boatsch than she is Dutch – she was born on a boat and has spent much of her life on boats. Unfortunately, boats don’t have schools or legal systems. source

Offbeat: When we say “10-year-old bacon in a can,” you say “yum,” right?

Our odd obsession with weird kinds of meat continues. This time, Gizmodo found this, uh, "gem." As bizarre as the idea of "tactical" bacon in a can is, it's not as weird as the fact that it stays good for ten years. The real question, though: Is it good for 36 years, like cake is?

  • Bobby Brown got married to Whitney Houston. Over time, he ruined her image. Good job, bro. source
  • Crack is wack. This interview turned her into a target of parody. Honestly, it still makes us laugh. source
  • “I Look to You,” Houston’s first album in seven years, comes out. It leaves the crack out of it. source

U.S.: Phillip Garrido hid his tracks well in the Jaycee Lee Dugard case

  • There were zero signs of kids living there. Only him, his wife and mom.
  • Antioch, California Sgt. Diane Aguinaga • Describing the utterly bizarre conditions that they found when they discovered long-missing child Jaycee Lee Dugard and her two daughters recently. Phillip Garrido, a registered sex offender as far back as 1971, allegedly hid the children in a backyard compound behind a fence. Few stones were left unturned – the lair was soundproofed, even. Incredibly disturbing. • source
