Biz: Sketchy subprime mortgagers try to screw already-screwed people

  • pre-burst Companies offer subprime mortgages that allow tons of people to get homes that they can’t afford. The companies make out like bandits, but when the housing bubble bursts, those homeowners are screwed. This is pretty evil.
  • post-burst Not afraid to kick already-lowered people or stick the knife further into their backs, the people behind the subprime mortgage companies start new loan-fixing companies, then fail to follow through on promised loan fixes. This is beyond evil. source

Sports: David Beckham: Not feeling the love from L.A. Galaxy fans

  • Hey Becks, Here Before You, Here After You, Here Despite You.

And the fans, boy, they let Becks hear it, especially one fan who got arrested in a near-attack of the soccer superstar. So, in case you’re wondering: MLS fans aren’t storied soccer hooligans yet, but they’re getting there. • source

Tech: The last Blu-Ray holdout, Toshiba, stops holding out

  • Now if they could only convince more people to buy Blu-Ray. The most recent format war, between Sony’s Blu-Ray and Toshiba’s HD-DVD, ended with Toshiba on the losing end last year due to a lack of big-media support. The company has finally given in to the tide, and will have a player on the market by the end of the year. Now, the goal is to get people to buy them – uptake is a little slow, but it helps that prices have fallen significantly over the last year or so. source
