  • Windows native look One of the off-putting things about Safari for the PC was that was essentially a Mac app plopped into Windows XP. Well, not anymore. It looks like a Vista app now. source

Tech: Among the Oscar winners: A World of Warcraft guild leader

  • You know it was for something nerdy, too. Steve Preeg, a visual effects artist, won for his work on “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” Preeg, when he’s not making Brad Pitt age in reverse, is Combat Rogue with 450 Enchanting and Inscription and leads a guild that’s done everything but Sarth 3D. WoW, good for him. source

U.S.: Obama to whiny governors: Stop being so whiny

  • If we agree on 90 percent of this stuff, and we’re spending all our time on television arguing about 1, 2, 3 percent of the spending in this thing … that starts sounding more like politics.
  • Barack Obama • On the stimulus package, parts of which may lead to states picking up the bill down the road. Some Republican governors have complained about this (somewhat loudly). Some of the complaining governors are potential 2012 Republican presidential candidates. • source

Music: A goal to reach for: The Huffington Post of Hip-Hop?

  • A former XXL Magazine editor says yes. The Huffington Post, which exploded in popularity in the last year, is perhaps an odd model for a hip-hop Web site, but Elliott Wilson says RapRadar.com can pull it off. The site, which launches March 9, will attempt to combine the worlds of blog gossip and news, just like HuffPo. And it helps that the mag has cred and money behind it: Eminem’s manager, Paul Rosenberg, is backing it, and Wilson is publishing an authorized bio of Jay-Z next year. So he can probably get those guest celebrity columns, too. source

Biz, U.S.: Dear Associated Press: This is a reeeeeallly stupid idea

  • Can I imagine content going behind a pay wall? Absolutely. And, yes, we are in conversations about that.
  • Tom Curley • The short-sighted, probably fat CEO of Associated Press who doesn’t see the big picture and wants to start charging for content. Good God, if the industry is thinking like this, maybe Marc Andreessen is onto something. • source

U.S.: MS to laid-off employees: You know what? Keep the extra cash.

  • MS has a change of heart. After being seen as heartless by sending letters like these to former employees, the Windows maker has changed its mind about asking for that severance money back. In case you’re wondering, MS, nobody will complain if you decide to take back Vista. Or Songsmith. source
