Politics: Max Headroom: Shepard Smith calls Obama “Omaba” somehow

  • “Anonymous” goes mainstream: Remember when “Anonymous” was simply a joke on the Internet that most people didn’t take seriously? It’s been a long time since those days. Now, we have “Operation Payback” (an offshoot of whatever “Anonymous” is) showing up as the number one item on “Countdown.” It’s a fascinating time we live in where something that started out as an apparent internet joke can actually raise some eyebrows. Our question: Will future attacks be scare tactics, like shutting down Mastercard and Visa? Or will they go for the jugular, like the massive hacking attack that tore through Gawker today?
  • Great Washington Theater The thing that we enjoyed the most about Friday’s ad-hoc press conference at the White House on Friday? We got to see a cheery, almost casual approach by both Obama and Bill Clinton. That said, guys like Anthony Weiner (part of the panel) aren’t having it. He backs Clinton while questioning Obama.
  • “Omaba”: A one-term president? We love when our boy Shepard Smith makes on-air mistakes. They’re always supremely entertaining – including the epic clip where he suggested Jennifer Lopez couldn’t get a blowjob block party in her old neighborhood. In this case, he called Obama “Omaba,” which is such a bizarre mistake to make.

Politics: David Axelrod leaving White House to pump up Obama’s 2012 hopes

Rahm’s gone, off pretending to be mayor, and now Davey Boy Axelrod is leaving the White House to run Obama’s 2012 campaign. Why do things change? source

Politics: Former Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders: Legalize pot and stuff

  • What I think is horrible about all of this, is that we criminalize young people. And we use so many of our excellent resources … for things that aren’t really causing any problems. It’s not a toxic substance.
  • Former Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders • Arguing the case for pot legalization. But before you pot-heads get too excited about having a mainstream, respected ally, we just want to point out how she lost her job. Elders, who served (controversially) under President Bill Clinton, is known for saying things like this. She once argued in favor of teaching masturbation in schools – an argument that caused her firing just fifteen months in. We wonder what our boy Dr. Koop thinks about all this. source

U.S.: Obama stops the foreclosure smorgasbord from becoming worse

  • what Obama said he would veto the Interstate Recognition of Notarizations Act, a minor bill  which passed both houses with little debate.
  • whyThe timing is suspect – as a side effect, the bill could allow mortgage lenders to rush through foreclosures more quickly from outside states. source
  • » Why this is a big deal: In recent weeks, politicians (especially Democrats) have been attacking mortgage lenders for using aggressive, shady techniques to push through foreclosures – a process which was impeded after the companies’ documentation came under question. A leading mortgage firm, Ally (better known as GMAC) recently had to halt all evictions in 23 states as a result of these documentation problems – revealed by one of their own employees in sworn testimony. The big story there, though, is that the smorgasbord of eviction is still on in 27 other states.

Politics: Bob Woodward’s Obama/Clinton 2012 talk perks up some ears

  • Perhaps they should’ve done this back in 2008. Nothing against Biden – he’s not a bad VP even with his occasional gaffes – but it might have made it easier on the White House. See, if Hillary were VP, it’d be much harder for critics to pin all of the country’s weaknesses on Obama. Hillary Clinton should also run in 2016 no matter what happens, because she’ll probably win. Even with the frustrations some have with the Obama administration, one person who’s come out ahead is Clinton. She still looks good. source

Politics: Rahm Emanuel pretending to listen to Chicago residents today

  • You are going to be asked some hardball questions and get your bat out. Welcome to Chicago.
  • Chicago resident Paul Johnson • Offering up some pretty necessary advice for our boy Rahm Emanuel, who’s working on his Chicago mayoral campaign as we speak. There are some residency issues that the Rahmster is currently trying to work out, and he’s in town as part of a campaign to shore up his lived-here-all-my-life credentials. “The Board of Elections will decide this, that’s the proper place,” Emanuel said. “So in the next five, six weeks, let’s have a debate about these issues that the residents of Chicago care about, not my residency.” Should be fun to see if it actually plays out that way. source

Politics: *SOB* WE CAN’T BELIEVE IT! RAHM EMANUEL IS REALLY GONE!

  • It is fair to say we could not have accomplished what we accomplished without Rahm’s leadership.
  • President Barack Obama • Giving a toast to his boy Rahm Emanuel, who is leaving the Obama administration to become the next Richard Daley of Chicago. The lovably profane drunk will be replaced by Pete Rouse, an Obama campaign adviser, at least temporarily. We’ll miss you man. We had so many great times together – at that party that one time, when we called liberals (#&@(&@ retarded, when we disagreed with Obama but supported him anyway … Sigh. It’s so hard to say goodbye to yestersday-eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. source

U.S.: Chicago’s next mayor? Rahm Emanuel probably leaving White House

  • We see nothing that will stop a run. But you don’t announce a campaign for mayor of Chicago in Washington, D.C. You leave and go home and finish your business there.
  • A White House staffer • Regarding Rahm Emanuel’s expected departure to make a run for mayor of Chicago. Come on, you knew it was coming, guys. The writing has been on the wall for a while. Emanuel is reportedly putting together his own team and making stuff happen. Emanuel will be missed – he’s the most-well-known figure in Obama’s staff and the brother of Jeremy Piven … kinda. source

Politics: Dear Robert Gibbs: We love you, but you should zip it

  • Robbie, it’s been a love affair for us. You seem like a genuine fun-loving guy and have generally been a decent press secretary. But recently, you’ve just been opening up your mouth too much. While refreshing honesty is nice and refreshing, it’s not your job. Your job isn’t to fight the “professional left” for respect. Your job is to help Obama communicate with the press. And if you become the news, you aren’t doing your job anymore. We love you and your demeanor. It’s refreshing considering some of the guys Bush had in that spot (Scott McClellan, anyone?), but don’t it get in the way of your job. source
