Culture: Ronni Chasen’s murder case gets significantly more interesting

  • So, let’s say that you’ve been pinpointed as a person of interest in a murder case. Not just any murder case, mind you, but that of Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen, whose bizarre middle-of-the-night death a few weeks ago raised more than a few eyebrows. What do you do? Well, in the case that unfolded last night, the currently-unnamed person shot and killed himself while being chased by police. Which means that, even if he didn’t do it, everyone’s going to think he did. Good work, hoss. source

Music: Don’t do it, man! Phil Collins thinks suicidal thoughts

  • I sometimes think I’m going to write this Phil Collins character out of the story. Phil Collins will just disappear or be murdered in some hotel bedroom, and people will say, ‘What happened to Phil?’ And the answer will be, ‘He got murdered, but, yeah, anyway, let’s carry on.’ That kind of thing.
  • Phil “our personal hero” Collins • Expressing suicidal thoughts in this month’s issue of Rolling Stone, out Friday. Dude, we love you. Your songs are our songs. You can’t do that to us! Sometimes we claim to love your songs ironically, but we know the truth. You’re our hero. Back in 1992, we unironically thought you were a God with an in-vis-a-ble touch-yah. And, against all odds, nothing will change that. Not even an entire album of overly-sappy songs for Disney like “You’ll Be In My Heart.” source

Music: Live your life: T.I. talked a guy out of jumping to his death (wow)

  • T.I. just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
  • Atlanta Police spokesman James Polite • Explaining how rapper T.I., a.k.a. Clifford Harris, convinced a man on the rooftop of a 22-story Atlanta hotel not to jump. The rapper reportedly came out of nowhere in the middle of police negotiations with the man and talked the guy out of the jump. T.I., known for both his chart-topping success and for going to jail at the peak of his career, will face a judge this week and may possibly get his probation revoked over drug charges in Hollywood. Wow, that guy leads a busy life. source

U.S.: Tyler Clementi may have posted cry for help online before suicide

  • People have commented on his profile with things like ‘how did you manage to go back in there? are you okay?’ and the fact that people he was with saw my making out with a guy as the scandal, whereas I mean come on… he was SPYING ON ME…do they see nothing wrong with this?
  • A quote reportedly from Rutgers student Tyler Clementi • Posted on an online forum not long before he committed suicide. The quote was from Cit2mo, and he described a situation very much like the one that Clementi suffered. While there’s no independent confirmation, the situation matches Clementi’s almost exactly. According to a friend of Clementi’s roommate Dharun Ravi, it was merely in good fun. “He’s very, very open-minded,” Michael Zhuang said, “and he, like if it had been a girl in the room it wouldn’t have been any different.” Tell that to Tyler. He seemed not to appreciate the gesture. source

U.S.: Rutgers student caught on webcam, later jumps off bridge

  • Guy on the left asks for some privacy. Guy in the middle leaves his webcam on and goes to visit girl on the right. Guy on left, thinking he has privacy, makes out with his boyfriend. Guy in center tweets about what he found. Three days later, guy on left jumps off of bridge and kills himself. Rutgers student Tyler Clementi’s death is very postmodern and sad. Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei should be totally ashamed, if not more. source

Music: A suicide at a Swell Season show: A Swell Season show? Really?

  • What an awful incident. Just awful. To the jerk who’s ready to pull out a “Falling Slowly” joke here: Don’t. During the show at Mountain Winery in Saratoga, Calif., someone reportedly jumped from the roof of the stage and fell in front of singer Glen Hansard. Which, as you might imagine, is kind of a shocking sight to see at an outdoor concert by a group that became famous from an extremely sweet movie. Our prayers, and theirs, are with the person’s family and friends. source
