He was bullied in school for many years for his perceived homosexuality; he recorded his own “It Gets Better” video and was called “outwardly upbeat and extroverted” by his peers. But clearly, this wasn’t enough. Buffalo News writer Sandra Tan asks aloud the one question that needed to be asked: “Given Jamey’s prolific writings and raw commentaries online, could someone have intervened sooner and saved him?” source

World: Tyler Clementi’s legacy? Rutgers offers gender-neutral housing

Clementi’s tragic death may have pushed the decision over the edge, but Rutgers isn’t alone – schools all over the country have been creating options like this for students. And student body officials at Rutgers say they’ve been pushing for this option for students for a number of years. Well, here it is. Smart move, Rutgers. source

U.S.: Tyler Clementi’s parents may sue Rutgers over webcam incident

  • cause As we’re sure you remember, Rutgers student Tyler Clementi, an accomplished violinist, dramatically committed suicide after his douchey roommate used a webcam to record him having sex with his boyfriend.
  • reaction Both the douchey roommate and his friend have been charged with invasion of privacy and have left the university, and now Clementi’s parents are considering suing Rutgers, which denies any wrongdoing in the incident. source
