  • Obama the GOP’s “Enemy”? On “Fox News Sunday,” Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, who has a reasonable beef with Obama over the response to the oil spill, compared him to a Napoleon quote about watching your enemy self-destruct. The key phrase there is not “self-destruct.” It’s “enemy.”

  • Who is this guy?James Clapper, currently working as the undersecretary of defense for intelligence, spent 32 years in the Air Force, then later joined Robert Gates in the Bush administration. Like Gates, he stuck around with Obama.

    Early complaintsDemocrats and Republicans have criticized the choice because Clapper isn’t an outsider and has deep ties to the Defense Department. Oh, and they like complaining. source

Politics: Well, it’s a start: Obama and Jan Brewer talk immigration

  • What Jan wants Brewer, who is up for reelection, is stressing strong immigration reform. “I want the border secured first. … [Back in 1996] amnesty was bestowed upon people but we never secured the borders.” She also claims an unsecure border is leading to higher crime – a claim not supported by statistics, by the way.
  • What Obama offered Despite this, the only promise the president gave her was that they would talk more. That’s a good starting point, though. “I am encouraged that there is going to be much better dialogue between the federal government and the state of Arizona now,” she said after their Oval Office meeting today. source

U.S.: Obama: “Oh, hey … Jan. Sorry about ripping your state so hard.”

  • The president’s got an Arizona governor-shaped guest coming this week. In case you forgot with the oil spill and Israel messing with flotillas, Arizona’s immigration law is still an annoyingly big deal. And Obama hasn’t been all that gracious about the law. So, as a way to pull out an olive branch, he’s bringing Gov. Jan Brewer to the Oval Office on Thursday. We know neither of them can wait. source

Politics: For some reason, Obama not ready to throw Israel under the bus

  • The President expressed deep regret at the loss of life in today’s incident, and concern for the wounded, many of whom are being treated in Israeli hospitals. The President also expressed the importance of learning all the facts and circumstances around this morning’s tragic events as soon as possible.
  • A statement from the White House • Regarding today’s insane flotilla situation in Israel. Obama has to respect the diplomatically-important relationship with Israel, but it’s kinda tough because they keep doing stupid crap like killing humanitarians. There are a lot of sides to this story, so it’s good to take them all in, but it’s clear that Israel had to get on that boat somehow. They weren’t there for tea and strumpets. They weren’t there to show off their new iPads. They weren’t there to give high-fives to the hundreds of people on board that boat. Even if the ship had weapons and the humanitarians were ready for a fight, it wasn’t like they were about to invade Gaza, either. Why not scold Israel, Obama, and tell them they screwed up? Because they clearly screwed up. source

  • Never discuss this again On Fox News today, this doctor discusses how women’s sexual desires go down as a result of taking birth control pills. The awkward silence at the end, just a second or so, feels like 20 minutes.

  • playing politicsThe Obama/Joe Sestak thing is kind of annoying because it happens often enough that calling people out for it is lame, but you expect more from Obama. At least this “Meet The Press” panel does.

  • Not a man from NantucketJames Carville sounds like the angriest human being alive in claiming that the entire federal government would’ve helped if the oil spill happened in Nantucket. We’re trying not to rhyme.
