Culture: This Ryan Jenkins case is looking like a real mess for VH1

  • Previous charges Despite the fact that the network’s production company for reality shows supposedly performs background checks on its contestants, they didn’t pull up a conviction for assault which led to probation. He got arrested in April, too. And he went to counseling for sex addiction. Not the kinda guy you want on a VH1 show. source

  • Another show Even worse for the network, Jenkins had recently shot a second still-unaired show called “I Love Money 3,” which features reality contestants from other VH1 shows. It may never see the light of day. Now isn’t looking like a bad time for the network to return to 60-hour Behind the Music marathons. source

  • She had her problems, you know, but nobody deserves to go (through) what she went through.
  • Roberto Rodriguez • The father of the baby found in a horrific murder/baby-kidnapping story in Worcester, Mass. Rodriguez’ girlfriend, Darlene Haynes, was found murdered on Monday and on Tuesday, it was discovered that the fetus of the eight-months-pregnant woman was missing. After a search, the baby was found – alive – with Julie Corey, a woman who had claimed to have recently given birth. Corey and another man were arrested today. One more sad angle of this story – Haynes and Rodriguez were on the outs, and Rodriguez had recently moved from their home. Sad times all around. • source

U.S., World: John Demjanjuk, the suspected Nazi guard, got charged today

  • He was deported from the U.S. to Germany in May. Demjanjuk was charged with being an accessory to 27,900 murders during the Holocaust by the German government. After spending years with a is-he-or-isn’t-he rep, he was suspected of being “Ivan the Terrible” and convicted in Israel in 1986, only to have that charge overturned. But the claims against the Russian-born Demjanjuk – who has been stripped of U.S. citizenship twice over the allegations – continued to follow him, and the 89-year-old will face trial for his suspected crimes. source
