U.S.: Congressmen can’t stand the heat of holding town hall meetings

  • I had felt they would be pointless. There is no point in meeting with my constituents and listen to them and have them listen to you if what is basically an unruly mob prevents you from having an intelligent conversation.
  • New York Democratic Rep. Tim Bishop • On his decision to suspend town hall meetings with his constituents after a June event got incredibly out of hand. Bishop was forced to run to his car under police escort after some of the people at the meeting got out of hand in their opinions on energy, health care, and the auto bailout. He’s not alone, but the targets tend to be House Democrats who supported the $787 billion stimulus. YELLING ISN’T GOING TO SOLVE ANYTHING, PEOPLE! • source

Politics, U.S.: Gee, House Republicans, when you explain health care like this …

healthcare0716
  • Wow. Where to start, where to start … We are not going to blame the Democrats for coming up with a complex, bureaucracy-filled health care plan. NO. We’re going to blame the Republicans for coming up with the most complicated, noise filled graphic possible to explain their point. You can make anything seem like the scariest thing ever when you make it look like this. Gray background? Not necessary. Loud, garish colors? Even less so. This is politics through bad design. Culture: Kal Penn left “House” in a really freaking intriguing way

  • David sort of had this ‘A-ha’ moment about how to both free Kal up to pursue other things and, most importantly, service where David wants to go at the end of the season with House’s story.
  • “House” executive producer Katie Jacobs • On the way that she and executive producer David Shore let Kal Penn leave the show. It involves a plot twist, and yes, the link spoils it. • source
