U.S.: Pentagon shooting: The dude pulled out a gun at random

  • One second, John Patrick Bedell looked innocent. The next, he was firing. The Pentagon Metro station, which is designed to be incredibly secure, was the scene of a shooting which was not the result of terrorism. How’d it happen? Well, Bedell calmly grabbed into his pocket as if he was grabbing a pass. Then he pulled out a gun, and grazed the two officers. The entrance to the station was closed for two hours as a result of the shooting, but officials are glad that the incident was otherwise handled well. source
  • UPDATE (1:13 a.m.): Bedell has died from his injuries.

U.S.: Gay marriage is now legal in D.C. It’s a good reason to celebrate!

  • I didn’t want to get married anywhere else. This is my city standing up for marriage equality.
  • D.C. resident Rocky Galloway • On his now-legal marriage to Reggie Stanley, his partner of six years. Gay marriage became legal today after the Supreme Court chose not to intervene in a last-ditch effort to stop it. We wonder what that means for the court case currently grinding through in California. source

U.S.: Unfortunate ad alert: “Every Day is a Snowday” next to D.C. snow

  • Nothing against Wintergreen Resort, but now is not the time to tell us that every day is a snowday, OK guys? All we want to do is escape from this winter, yet this resort thinks we want to replace one version of winter with another, more-professionally-done kind. We don’t care how nice the skiing is. We just want it to end, OK guys? This ad gives us snow rage. source

Offbeat: D.C. is getting more snow. God hates us. We like this video.

  • This video is like a 30-second explanation of our lives. First, when the teddy bear was a little covered, it was fun. Then the snow kept coming. Now we’re just annoyed.

U.S.: Final totals: How much snow did D.C., Baltimore and Philly get?

  • 17.8″ snowfall total at Reagan National Airport, just outside of D.C. – the airport’s second-highest-ever total
  • 24.8″ snowfall total at Baltimore Washington International Airport, its highest total ever in a two-day span
  • 28.5″ snowfall total in Philadelphia, the second-highest total ever in the region; start shoveling source
  • Is more coming? Because Mother Nature hates us personally and wants ShortFormBlog to apparently shut down, she plans on bringing more snow to the Mid-Atlantic region later this week. This time it’s only reportedly going to be six inches, but come on, what did we do to you, Mom?
