Politics: Roaring applause: Allen West energizes conservatives at CPAC

  • “It is not the public good that matters, it is the personal good.” Representative Allen West (R-FL) fired up the crowd, during his speech at CPAC Friday night, saying that conservatives have allowed “the other side to paint us as racist” for too long. Rep. West reminded voters that proof of that statement’s inaccuracy stood before them saying, “today, as a conservative black Republican and former soldier, I’m here to set that record straight.” His comments drew roaring applause.   • skipping Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee. Oh, and some groups –the Family Research Council and the Heritage Foundation – are boycotting because GOProud will be there. Will Ryan Sorba make it? source

  • Conservative gay-basher Ryan Sorba • Regarding his opinion on homosexuality. He was confronted about the issue by Alex Knepper, an American University student who is a gay conservative. Sorba was pretty much a jerk to Knepper, saying that Knepper had a lisp and went on about how homosexuality wasn’t a part of natural law. Sorba is a bizarre little part of the conservative movement, one who probably will be forgotten after CPAC. But man, he and his fringe opinions are so much fun to criticize now! source

Politics: Glenn Beck: The GOP just as bad as Democrats on spending

  • Hello, my name is the Republican Party, and I have a problem! I’m addicted to spending and big government.
  • Glenn Beck • Speaking at CPAC last night as if the Republican Party was at an AA meeting. The Fox News and radio host noted that both parties had big problems with spending during his speech – Democrats tax and spend, while Republicans just spend. Beck said that as a result, people were losing faith that things would improve. Beck’s comparison holds weight – between this and the Debbie Medina thing, he’s actually starting to sound smart! How did this happen? Is there hope for Glenn Beck yet? source

Politics: Ryan Sorba: How did this gay-bashing jerkbag get on CPAC’s stage?

  • Ryan Sorba, shown in this clip here, bashed CPAC for bringing a gay conservative organization, GOProud, as a sponsor. And his arguments make him sound like a massive bigot. And he got booed pretty impressively. Hey, bigoted assclown, you’re supposed to be bringing more people under your tent, not less, OK? It’s pretty awesome that a huge conference of ultra-conservatives won’t put up with this kind of bigotry. source

  • We’re gonna have the most popular games. There’ll be Guitar Hero. There’ll be Dance Revolution. There’ll be Call of Duty.

Hip-hop will also be playing in the background, because that’s what the kids like. Last year at CPAC, Rush Limbaugh famously said that he hoped Obama failed, which was the first touch of resistance the then-made-of-Teflon president felt. To us, a video game room hosted by Michael Steele seems like a significant “we’re trying too hard” downgrade. source
