Chris Matthews • During an interview with Alabama congressional candidate Rick “gather your armies” Barber, who completely flopped during his interview with the MSNBC talker. He doesn’t seem so convicted about his anti-income-tax, pro-rebellion criticisms in front of Matthews, who takes apart every claim of Barber’s colonial-motif ad and lays it flat on the table. It’s like Rand Paul, except more embarrassing. source
You know, Dale Peterson may not have a future in politics, but he definitely has a future in advertising. In fact, he could use the Ernest advertising model so popular in the ’80s – use the same exaggerated NIMBY farmer type to sell milk. Or pitch for other politicians, like he does here. He’s really, genuinely, good at this. source
Transcript of this clip: I’m Rick Barber and I’m trying to get on MSNBC so Rachel Maddow will make fun of me. Then, people will vote for me in this runoff election, despite the fact that three other Alabama candidates tried similar tactics and lost. See the founding fathers? See me ripping out their souls with my stare? Vote for me! source

And the saddest news of the night: Dale “Thugs and Criminals” Peterson, who is running for Alabama Agriculture Commissioner on the back of an awesome commercial, came in third in a field of three for the Republican nomination. That sucks.
On the left: The guy who wants to be Alabama’s first black governor. On the right: The guy who wanted to be, and is, the U.S.’s first black president.

Key quote (as he pulls out a rifle): “We’re Republicans, we should be better than that.” Dale Peterson, who’s running for a fairly random state position in Alabama, has been getting a lot of attention for this this ad, which seems to fit absolutely every cliche of the current GOP. It’s not ironic. Well, at least we don’t think it is. Someone actually made a “Chuck Norris Facts”-style parody site for Peterson, and Peterson linked to it on his campaign site. Nice. source
The release of Ms. Bishop did not sit well with the police officers, and I can assure you that this would not happen in this day and age.
Braintree, Mass. chief of police Paul Frazier • Regarding Alabama professor Amy Bishop, who reportedly killed three professors on Friday, on a cold case involving Bishop’s brother. In 1986, Seth Bishop was killed during an argument at their home in Braintree. Police are considering re-opening that 24-year-old case as a result of the most recent murders. The shooting was classified as accidental at the time, but an officer at the scene claimed it took place after an argument between the two parties. source
Amy Bishop, center, reportedly opened fire yesterday after she found out she didn’t get tenure status at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, killing three.
