Culture: Well, that’s one way to remember dad: Sean Lennon + nude model

He’s recreating the famous Rolling Stone cover, except he’s playing Yoko and the girl next to him is playing John. We don’t like this. (Photo in link NSFW) source

Culture: Banksy painted over: A famous work of art callously destroyed

  • We never wanted to make money out of it like many do – but it was a part of our lives. Now it’s gone.
  • Sofie Attrill • Who owns a building on which famous English grafitti artist Banksy painted a notable piece of art. The art, which showed up on the single for Blur’s “Crazy Beat”, was painted over by a local government. They needed her permission to paint it over, but sent letters asking for permission to an ancient address. By the time that Attrill caught the painters, it was mostly destroyed. Idiots. • source

Culture: Spike Jonze fans with lots of time on your hands: Read this

spikejonze0903
  • “It’s like the studio was expecting a boy, and I gave birth to a girl.” The New York Times Magazine has a massive, unspeakably awesome story up about Spike Jonze and his adaptation of “Where the Wild Things Are,” which sounds destined to be the kind of movie nerds will love and movie execs will cross their fingers and hope is a big hit. Jonze’s budget was as much as five times bigger as that of his last film, “Adaptation,” and he used it to create something which appears to possibly be breathtaking. Read every last word. source

Culture: Dear Will Arnett: Stop playing tennis. Make “Arrested Development.”

  • Word on the street is that Will Arnett, not Michael Cera, is holding up the development of the “Arrested Development” movie, thanks to a new show he’s making with creator Mitch Hurwitz (that hopefully will be better than “Sit Down, Shut Up”). They need to hurry up. If they don’t, Michael Cera’s gonna be pushing 30 by the time it happens. (The video above, featuring fellow funnyman Will Ferrell? Choice.)source

Biz, Culture: Marvel is just more proof that Disney is out of good ideas

  • [Bob Iger] was watching all the classic Disney characters go by, and it hit him that there was not one character that Disney had created in the past 10 years. Not one. All the new characters were invented by Pixar.
  • John Lasseter • Discussing the turning point that convinced Disney to buy Pixar in 2006. Consider the Marvel deal to be in a similar situation. Marvel’s live-action properties are far more compelling than Disney’s right now, so much so that Disney’s struggling at the box office while other companies are doing really well. While Pixar can guarantee one solid animated movie a year, Disney’s live-action side has had diminishing returns since “Pirates of the Carribean.” Marvel provides the mouse with a shot in the arm. • source

Culture: Chris Brown: I didn’t forget the attack, like I told Larry King

  • The first four times – or how ever many times it was – I gave the same answer — which was that I didn’t think it was appropriate for me to talk about what happened that night. I said it was not right for me and it really wasn’t fair to Rihanna. The fifth time – or whatever it was – I just misspoke.
  • A statement by Chris Brown • In an attempt at damage control after a devastating interview with Larry King where he said he had no recollection of attacking Rihanna in February. Based on the poll that TMZ is offering, we’re guessing that he lost any chance at sympathy because of the interview. Dude’s career is probably over after this. He screwed up the Larry King fall-from-grace interview – the softest-pedal interview you can find on televison. It’s all over from here. • source
