Offbeat: Dallas local news station takes piss out of social media

  • This seems like a not-so-subtle attempt to remind people that for all those Web-centric services out there, the local news was first. Our favorite part is when they pull out the Skype. (Thanks Charles Apple for bringing this clip to our attention.)

Politics: Is Obama avoiding temple visit so he doesn’t look like a Muslim?

  • problem Obama is facing a lot of criticism suggesting that he’s Muslim, even though he’s not by a long shot. One in five Americans think he is, though.
  • crisis He canceled a trip to a city in India, possibly because he’d visit a temple that requires mandatory headgear – a.k.a. ammo for hatahz.
  • but … Some people in the city of Amritsar say he’d be OK to visit the Sikh Golden Temple wearing just a baseball cap. Go Yankees! source

U.S.: U.S., Saudi Arabia: Let’s make a (massive ongoing weapons) deal!

  • $60
    million

  • 20

Music: Velvet Underground drummer Mo Tucker explains her politics

  • It drives me nuts to see that X millions are being allocated to build a turtle tunnel, a donkey museuma salamander crossing, etc, etc, etc.
  • Former Velvet Underground Maureen “Mo” Tucker • Explaining why she showed up in a news clip as a bonafide Tea Party supporter. While we stand by the fact that she doesn’t have anything to explain, she did offer a little bit of insight to her political views to the St. Louis Riverfront Times. She claims to dislike the heavy spending of the Obama administration, although she’s a Democrat/independent who doesn’t think highly of George W. Bush or Sarah Palin, either. She also wants more oversight of social welfare programs and less spending on frivolous projects. “Anyone who knows me knows that I’m not a fool, a racist, a Nazi,” she wrote. “Anyone who knows me knows I’m afraid of flying, afraid of bugs, but not afraid to say what I think.” source

Politics: Crossdressing Korean bassist: Pawn in Meg Whitman’s campaign

  • And let this be a lesson to political campaigns: If you miss a character on a bit.ly URL, you might not get what you want. Meg Whitman’s press secretary lost a character in her tweet, pulling this entertaining video instead of the rah-rah endorsement that Whitman got from some police group. Sure, it happens to everyone, but it’s usually not as entertaining as this. source
