  • no The CIA has claimed that they didn’t have any interrogation tapes of 9/11 plotters, and that they were destroyed.
  • but Apparently, that’s not true; they managed to find one just hanging out under some bureaucrat’s desk. Heckuva job. source

U.S.: Pretend you’re a fisherman: How to get in on some of BP’s cash

  • Apparently, ten percent of claims could be fraudulent. BP, because they’ve bungled just about everything else related to the oil spill, has apparently bungled the claims process, too, with some people pretending to be fishermen just to get some money from the company. But it goes both ways – some con artists have pretended to be BP employees to scam people deserving of money. Note: People suck sometimes. source

Politics: Is the root of the “Ground Zero Mosque” story Pamela Gellar?

  • She was one of the first bloggers to tackle it. Who’s Pamela Gellar? She’s a conservative blogger (owner of “Atlas Shrugs“) who is strongly anti-Jihad (not anti-Islam) in her political stances, and just today called President Obama an “antisemite president.” (In the past, she once suggested Malcolm X was Obama’s dad. No, really.) Now, we’re not super-familiar with her work, but Salon is making this claim that the whole negative vibe against the Park51 center started with her, and eventually was picked up by the New York Post. It worked like a virus from there, eventually wending its way all the way to Barack Obama, who certainly stepped in it. Can we go back to fighting about health care yet? source

Culture: Good show: Pee-Wee Herman finally opens up about his scandals

  • Keep in mind I got arrested at the same time the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer’s story was breaking—and yet my story led the news for five days in a row. This man killed lots of people, drilled holes in their heads and poured acid into them. And he got the second spot on the news, after me.
  • Paul “Pee-Wee Herman” Reubens • Finally talking about his infamous 1991 arrest in Playboy. Reubens, who has been on the comeback trail in recent years, finally opened up about that situation, along with a fairly thin 2003 obscenity conviction that was later erased from his record. Good show, Paul. Glad to see you making a comeback (a movie, reportedly with Judd Apatow, is in the works) and opening up about the toughest times of your life. It’s very brave of you to finally tell your side of the story. source

Politics: What does the “Ground Zero Mosque” neighborhood look like?

  • Our AOL News article yesterday about the “Ground Zero Mosque” hit a definite chord, based on the comments we saw here and the comments the piece got there. (Over a thousand!) It was only a matter of time before someone scoped out the neighborhood for some of the items we pointed out, and more. (Nice work, Daryl Lang!) And let’s just say that “New York Dolls” and “Off-Track Betting” are just as beautiful as we imagined. source

Politics: Ground Zero saga: Harry Reid throws Obama under the mosque

  • The First Amendment protects freedom of religion. Sen. Reid respects that but thinks that the mosque should be built some place else.
  • Sen. Harry Reid’s spokesman, Jim Manley • In a message regarding the Senate Majority Leader’s stance on the not-really-Ground-Zero mosque. Reid’s comments show the senator being pulled from two different directions. While he’s Obama’s best bud, he’s also under heavy attack from Sharron Angle in Nevada, who dared Reid to have a stance on the issue. He did. And now Obama is screwed. source

  • what An appeals court blocked gay marriages from taking place after lower court judge Vaughn Walker said they could. So they’ll have to wait for now.
  • why The court appeared to agree with pro-Prop. 8 lawyer Charles Cooper’s take – that allowing them could cause  “irreparable harm” to the trial. source
