Politics: Joe Sestak may have had a buddy in the employment line

  • Mr. Messina also suggested three positions that might be available to me were I not pursuing the Senate race,” Romanoff wrote in a statement. “He added that he could not guarantee my appointment to any of these positions. At no time was I promised a job, nor did I request Mr. Messina’s assistance in obtaining one.
  • A statement from Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff • Making him look like Joe Sestak, round two. Romanoff discussed working with the deputy chief of staff if he chose not to run for the Senate, but he chose to stay in the race. The wording of this suggests that the administration did nothing wrong, but the devil’s in the details. Oh, and what fun details to dig through! One piece of advice for nugget-diggers: Avoid Rahm Emanuel’s socks when digging through Obama’s seemingly smelly dirty laundry. source

U.S.: Wanted in Peru: A former Natalee Holloway disappearance suspect

  • 2005 In Aruba, Natalee Holloway went missing and is presumed dead. Dutch student Joran van der Sloot is a suspect, but evidence against him is weak.
  • 2008 After the case dragged on and on (and on – thanks Nancy Grace), prosecutors try and fail to re-arrest van der Sloot after new evidence surfaces.
  • 2010 In Peru, van der Sloot is the main suspect in the murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez, and this time, there’s sufficient evidence. She was found in his hotel room. source

Culture: Was Gary Coleman married at the time he died?

  • NO he divorced in 2008; that’s
    what his lawyer says source
  • » Why this matters: Two words: Terri Schiavo. Remember the long fight over keeping that woman alive? Well, if Shannon Price and Coleman weren’t married, it’s possible that she didn’t have the right to order to pull the plug on Coleman’s life support.

World: Benny Netanyahu works tired TV reference into flotilla quote

  • This was not a love boat, this was a hate boat. These were not peace activists, there were supporters of terrorism.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu • Saying an incredibly quotable quote in the wake of the whole flotilla situation. His take? The entire world is rushing to judgment and being hypocritical towards Israel. Which, admittedly, wouldn’t be the first time. But that said, he’s perhaps being a little over the top. “Israel can not permit Iran to develop a Mediterranean port a few dozen kilometers from Tel Aviv,” he said. Er, uh, we’re talking about Gaza, right? Say what you will about Israel’s actions, but the above quote hilarious because it’s so flip. source

Tech: Yo AT&T users – think you hog data? Here’s a quick way to check

  • This is us. We admit to being very heavy users. But, even then, we’ve only modestly crossed over the 2-gigabyte threshold AT&T has given us. This isn’t hard to find, either. Log into your AT&T Wireless account, head to the “My Current Usage” screen, click “View Past Data Usage,” and run one of the reports. It’s pretty surprising. We’d end up spending $5 more than we do currently under this plan for most of the months. source

Music: M.I.A.’s prison is YouTube, based on her new album cover

  • Youtube just got the avant-garde treatment. MIA has pretty much always been the most out-there pop star in the best way possible, and the cover for her new album “/\/\ /\ Y /\” (that’s “Maya,” for the non-hipsters) looks like it’s going to keep up that trend, putting her behind a wall of Youtube players. See the symbolism? source

Biz: Jeff Jarvis: The FTC’s favoring old journalism over innovation

  • If the FTC truly wanted to reinvent journalism, the agency would instead align itself with journalism’s disruptors. But there’s none of that here.
  • Journo-expert Jeff Jarvis • Regarding a recent Federal Trade Commission report on how to save journalism. He notes as sort of a  key fact that the entire document only mentions the word “blog” once, despite the fact that many blogs are as “real content” as you’re going to get. And the document, overall, seems skewed in favor of establishment journalism, with suggestions that could seriously damage innovation in the industry. “Here, the internet is not the salvation of news, journalism, and democracy. It’s the other side,” he writes. source
