U.S.: There’s a U-Haul truck hanging out on the RFK Bridge right now

  • It has Arizona plates; no #(&@, Sherlock, it’s a U-Haul. Just when we needed another terrorism scare in New York City, here we go. Somebody ditched a U-Haul about 1,000 feet from a toll booth. The bridge is currently shut down and everyone’s on their Ps and Qs. Please not be a bomb, please not be a bomb … (Update: Reuters says it’s not a bomb. Just a scare, nothing more.) source

Culture: Happy Cinco de Mayo. Here’s the awesome “Machete” trailer

    What a perfect movie for the current political climate. “Machete,” originally a fake trailer in the “Grindhouse” double feature, has a new trailer with a lot more stars (we now have our Lindsay Lohan and Robert de Niro connection for “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon!”) but a plot that remains true to the original, funny, awesome idea. Danny Trejo is still Machete, and this film is still a quote-unquote “Mexploitation” film directed by Robert Rodriguez. For the win. source

  • Scribd co-founder and chief technology officer Jared Friedman • Revealing the company’s plans to ditch its Flash-based distribution mechanism for HTML5. Why is this a big deal? Well, they’re about to turn hundreds of thousands of print-focused PDF documents into Web pages. This is a big deal for the future of the Web, because it’s yet another fairly large platform that’s about to switch away from Adobe’s software. Even Adobe, recently eviscerated by Steve Jobs, sees the writing on the wall here. source
