Politics: The Supreme Court is over its head when it comes to sexting

  • Does it say: ‘Your call is important to us, and we will get back to you?’
  • Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy • Trying to wrap his head around the idea of sending a text message, as part of a case on sexting involving the . He’s not the only justice who doesn’t understand this newfangled technology. Fellow Justice Antonin Scalia showed off the fact that he’s old by saying this gem: “Could [the plaintiff, Sergeant Jeff] Quon print these spicy little conversations and send them to his buddies?” Because cell phones have printers. These people, by the way, are setting the law of the land, yet they don’t know what the heck they’re talking about. Should we be nervous? source

Politics: Eric Massa’s got an ethics investigation, tickling on his hands

  • Dude paid some big bills at a fairly bad time to pay big bills. The former New York congressman, who left in a storm of scandal, tickling and general idiocy, paid off nearly $70,000 in bills (including to a campaign manager) in the days after he left office. So that’s getting investigated. On top of that drama, House Ethics Committee thinks his case is worthy of its own investigative SUBCOMMITTEE. You’d think he hit on some pages over IM or something. source

U.S.: New $100 dollar bill: What the #(*# is this stupid #(&@?

  • Dear U.S. treasury: Maybe you should consider switching to debit cards for large denominations like these. Because, uh, this 3D crap is just getting really stupid and over the top. We’re also convinced Ben Franklin would find this treatment pretty demeaning, too. This isn’t money. This is an episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, in legal tender form. source

Culture: South Park offends some radical Muslims with a bear suit

  • We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo van Gogh for airing this show. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality that will likely happen to them.
  • Abu Talhah al Amrikee of the site Revolutionmuslim.com • Regarding “South Park” celebrating its 200th episode by depicting the prophet Mohammed behind a black bar, and later in a bear suit. Because that’s not controversial. Anyway, the site that posted this criticism compared Trey Parker and Matt Stone to director Theo van Gogh, who was murdered after he created a controversial film about the the treatment of women in radical Islam. They also posted the addresses to South Park Studios. Tonight should be fun in response to this controversy – “South Park” is famous for being able to respond to controversies like this quickly. source

U.S.: North Dakota has lots of jobs. But why is homelessness up?

  • 19% increase in homelessness from 2008 to 2009 source
  • » But why? The reason might surprise you – as will the deceptiveness of the number above. In 2008, 832 people were homeless. In 2009, 987 were. That’s a far cry from your average major city. The state has 4 percent unemployment, so there are plenty of jobs. But there aren’t enough homes for people to live in, causing some to make do, for example, in cars parked in Wal-Mart parking lots. There are waiting lists for homes in the state. How crazy is that?

Tech: Who wants your search data? Google gets super-transparent

  • Who’s asking for your data? Google, as a part of the newfound sense of transparency that hit not long after that whole China incident, just put up this government-tracking site to see where requests for user information were coming from. Something tells us the people of Brazil don’t have a lot of reason to be happy right now. source
