U.S.: Astronauts have a easy time slaying the Hubble beast

  • They expected trouble. They didn’t get it. Dealing with sharp objects, trying to fix a telescope in the middle of space, wearing those freaking suits, possibly getting hit with space junk – there were a lot of pitfalls in trying to fix the Hubble Space Telescope. But despite the massive length of time – six hours and 36 minutes – they did it easily. Great job guys! And when you’re done with that, we need some repairs for our apartment. source

Culture: J.J. Abrams is like OMG about the “Star Trek” possibilities

  • The fun of this is that the destiny of these characters is in their hands — it’s not constrained by the pre-existing films or TV series. Believe me, whether it’s William Shatner or Khan … it would be ridiculous to not be open to those ideas.
  • “Star Trek” director J.J. Abrams • On the nice part of having a major hit film based on a legacy franchise – specifically one based on an alternate reality – on your hands: Thinking about the possibilities of what you can do with it next. If they get Shatner on board, fanbois are gonna be like whoa. • source

Culture, Sports: Uh, Spike Lee, why did you direct a Kobe documentary?

  • strange Lee, fresh off his critical, uh, success with “Miracle at St. Anna,” has chosen to follow it up with “Kobe Doin’ Work,” which is essentially a film of Kobe Bryant at his day job.
  • boring The film focuses on just one game – an unspectacular performance last year against the San Antonio Spurs. And it doesn’t get the interesting parts. It’s just a lame Spike Lee Joint. source
