Sports: Sir Charles Barkley is taking a break from TNT

  • He’s sorting through a DUI case. Barkley, who was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Arizona on New Year’s Eve, will take at least several weeks off from his popular stint as TNT Sports broadcaster. When Barkley was arrested, he had a blood alcohol level of .149, nearly twice the legal limit in Arizona. source

World: Israel to Gaza: Things are going to escalate

  • Dropping leaflets In a “general warning,” the Israeli air force dropped a series of leaflets informing residents of the Gaza Strip that the country is about the begin a “new phase in the war on terror” and will intensify the attacks on the region.
  • The focus has been Hamas The ruling Hamas militant group is the target of the campaign. Israel said that 15 militants were killed in heavy ground fighting on Saturday. Despite the focus, civilians have taken much of the brunt of the attack, with around half of the 800 casualties being civilians. source
