Offbeat: People say the dumbest things at job interviews

  • When you do background checks on candidates, do things like public drunkenness arrests come up?
  • A job interviewee, when asked if they had any questions • That big idiot, along with 42 other idiots (who said such wonderful things as “What do you want me to do if I cannot walk to work if it’s raining? Can you pick me up?” and “I saw the job posted on Twitter and thought, why not?”) are a big part of the reason why the unemployment level is so high in this country. Right? Anyway, read this list and laugh, kids. Laugh. • source

Music: Saturday Mixtape: Bizarre WTF covers of Michael Jackson songs

  • Michael Jackson is the most pervasive artist of our generation, and to prove it, we looked to see what sort of crazy covers of his songs we could find. And boy, we weren’t disappointed.

    1. Our first interpretation is “Beat It” by Inactive Messiah, a Greek melodic death metal band. The intro is very graceful, but our favorite part is when singer Xristos starts growling.

    2. It’s too easy for us to put Alien Ant Farm’s cover of “Smooth Criminal” here. So we put this loose electronica-by-way-of-jazz interpretation by J.Viewz (remixed by S.T.Louder) here instead.

    3. Willie Nelson has a history of bizarre cover choices, unrivaled by any country crooner except Johnny Cash. But did Cash ever cover Michael Jackson’s “She’s Out of My Life”? We think not. (Nelson’s version still makes us cry. :( )

    4. Only Michael Jackson could be covered sensibly in both death metal and Bossanova-leaning smooth jazz styles. The guy guilty of this “Man in the Mirror” cover is Brazilian crooner Paulinho Loureiro.

    5. We totally saved the best/worst for last. Five words: “Black or White,” polka-style. Blame Texingtal Musikanten. source

World: Great Britain takes punch after punch from Iran’s leadership

  • Great Britain has plotted against the presidential election for more than two years. We witnessed an influx of people before the election. Elements linked to the British secret service were flying in in droves.
  • Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Manouchehr Mottaki • Regarding the real reason why Iran’s government is currently facing massive protests – because the U.K. planned the fallout. Uh, sure. British MP David Milliband, the U.K.’s Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, wouldn’t take the bait: “I reject categorically the idea that the protesters in Iran are manipulated or motivated by foreign countries.” • source

Music: Know that awful Attack Attack! video we posted? There’s more.

  • The original You probably watched “Stick Stickly” last night and, like us, wondered to yourself how low the bassist could gyrate himself while still being able to play. It was godawful.

Offbeat: To nerd and corrupt: Did a Geek Squad worker abuse his power?

They give them badges? Really? A New Joisey man was arrested Thursday night after allegedly using his authority to fix computers at high prices to instead convince a prostitute to perform sexual acts with him. No matter the outcome, 25-year-old Jay Mora of Newark is going to have a hard time living this one down. source

Offbeat: Facing limited income flow, someone steals from tampon machines

  • I think that if you’re going to steal something, you should steal it from someplace better than a tampon machine. It’s got to be bad if someone’s stealing from a machine in a bathroom.
  • Michigan State University student Sheena Patel • Making our alma mater proud by saying such profound things as this nugget about someone who’s stealing change from tampon machines. The university is missing $7.50 in change from two weeks of robberies, which means someone isn’t having lunch. Really, the culprit could be anyone, but man, this story would take a turn for the awesome/creepy if it was a dude. • source

U.S.: Miami teenager Tyler Weinman is a cat-killing creepbag

  • He apparently mutilated at least 19 cats! 19!!!! The smug-looking Weinman, who was arrested early today on charges of animal cruelty, burglary and failing to dispose of animal bodies, apparently had shocked the Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay neighborhoods over the last month with his rash of attacks. Hey PETA, why aren’t you on this kid as opposed to this? source
