Politics: Ken Mehlman: Former RNC chairman says he’s gay

  • Next up: Current RNC chairman says he’s an idiot. Ken Mehlman, who was the campaign manager behind George W. Bush’s re-election, revealed the fact to family and friends, according to The Atlantic’s Mark Ambinder. Mehlman, who only recently came to that realization, admits that he was in a place to actually do something to encourage gay marriage in his former role, and regrets that he didn’t. But it doesn’t mean that he can’t encourage it in his private life. source

Politics: Max Headroom: Michael Steele gets support from (only) Ron Paul

  • Ron Paul: You’re lying! In this clip with Don Lemon earlier today, Paul, who’s speaking from Skype, claims that Lemon is misconstruing Steele’s comments. Prior to that is a pretty good catch-up on the whole situation, including John McCain and Jim DeMint ripping Steele’s leadership.

  • Erick Erickson rips SteeleThe RedState.com blogger, known for his controversial comments, already said that Steele should resign, but doesn’t think he will, because he’s not concerned for the health of the party, but the success of Michael Steele. We shockingly agree with him 100 percent.

  • Is this about race?Cynthia Tucker of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution speaks so negatively of both Steele and the process that led to his RNC leadership position that she suggests Steele got in through a bizarre form of affirmative action, and he doesn’t deserve the job.

Politics: Michael Steele is an idiot, reason 3,149: Trashing the Afghan War

  • “This is a war of Obama’s choosing.” Wait a second, we’re not geniuses here, but we’re pretty sure that the GOP largely supports the Afghan War, too, not just Obama. And here’s Steele suggesting it can’t be won, that a land war in Afghanistan is “the one thing you don’t do.” Whether or not these comments were taken out of context, let’s face it – this guy says incredibly stupid crap from time to time. Both parties are criticizing him for this one. And they should. It totally shows a lack of understanding of his own party’s message. source

Politics: RNC finance director Rob Bickhart hits three strikes, is out

  • one Bickhart was behind a Powerpoint presentation that compared Harry Reid to Scooby Doo and promised a fundraising campaign driven by “fear” of Obama.
  • two As a result of that Powerpoint, Bickhart’s compensation came under scrutiny. Dude got paid $370,000 over a nine month period – or more than the president.
  • three Then there was the strip club scandal. That little piece of drama caught the media’s attention and made Bickhart’s performance look even worse. See ya! source

Politics: Michael Steele to all the Republicans he ticked off: Sorry, guys

  • You can’t please everyone, but you can certainly make them all mad at you at the same time. And that is a lesson well-learned. It is an opportunity as well.
  • RNC Chairman Michael Steele • At the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans, attempting to apologize for the drama around the group he leads, including the insane spending the group is accused of doing. During the speech in a half-full hotel conference room, Steele didn’t appear ready to resign from his leadership spot, but did apologize and try to build future optimism. “Folks have been mad at us in the past,” he said, “and we have learned from that past and we are ready to move on to a bright future, as leaders, as Republicans, as conservatives.” source

Politics: Dear Alan Grayson: Acting like a jerk at Perkins kinda lame

  • The story behind the clipRep. Alan Grayson, perhaps the closest thing the Democratic party has to a left-leaning crazy, comes to a RNC meeting in Orlando and accuses them of spying. It turns into this big thing covered here on Fox News. Showing backbone is one thing, Alan, but this kinda gets to the point where you turn into the joke, man. Although we must say – never been much been fans of Perkins. We’re IHOP all the way, so at the very least, we support Alan’s yelling in that department. source

Politics: Top RNC staffer quits, throws dagger on the way out

  • Let me be clear so that there is no misunderstanding. I don’t care if the $2,000 was spent in February at a strip club or a pizza parlor. This is a matter of principle. That $2,000 should have been used to promote our conservative ideals.
  • New Hampshire Republican National Committee leader Sean Mahoney • Sending in his resignation in a way that stings. He’s not even the first member to quit the RNC since the scandal hit, but his both-middle-fingers-in-the-air approach is fun to watch. Michael Steele, by the way, will likely remain in his position at least until January when the next RNC election takes place. source

Politics: Michael Steele too street-wise to be held back from RNC job

  • When 71 percent of Republicans think you’re a liability for your party, and you’re in charge of raising money for the party, it might be time to consider a different career path. In other news, Steele brought his race into the debate, suggesting that while he had a slim margin of error, “Barack Obama has a slimmer margin than others.” source

Politics: RNC hires guy with just the right rep to continue their finance fail

  • good The RNC realizes that people aren’t willing to put up with their wasteful strip-club spending, and hire a guy to watch over finances.
  • bad That guy, Neil S. Alpert, was fined $4,000 for improperly spending $37,670 that wasn’t his from two separate PACs. Oops. source

Politics: Another top Republican takes RNC to task for strip club saga

  • This kind of thing has got to stop or they won’t get any contributions. The people that contribute to the committees, both Democrat and Republican, want to know that their money is well spent for the cause, and it needs to be that way.
  • Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl • Speaking on Fox News Sunday about the current scandal facing the Republican National Committee, where they spent much of the money designed to win elections on fairly unnecessary things – private planes and strip clubs, anyone? He’s the second top conservative to say anything about the scandal: Family Research Council head Tony Perkins trashed on the RNC the other day, saying donors should spend their money elsewhere. source
