Emanuel is reportedly putting together his own team and making stuff happen. Emanuel will be missed – he’s the most-well-known figure in Obama’s staff and the brother of Jeremy Piven … kinda. source

  • A tweet from @SarahPalinUSA • Criticizing Rahm Emanuel for making a big issue of the Joe Barton thang. The tweet references another Republican Joe – Joe Wilson – who famously shouted “You Lie” at Obama during a speech about health care last year. White House spokesman Bill Burton pointed out that other Republicans agreed with Barton (true) and continued, “We’re satisfied that we’re doing everything we can to take care of the folks in the Gulf region, and if she doesn’t want to own Congressman Barton’s comments, that doesn’t surprise me.” In other news, whatever Sarah Palin says becomes news. source

  • These guys could use a better P.R. adviser but the point is we need to get this oil stopped. … If you’re going to advocate expansion of government it doesn’t look very good when the government you’re already in charge of doesn’t function so well.
  • Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell • Discussing the dual PR screw-ups of BP CEO Tony Hayward (at a yachting race) and Barack Obama (at a golf course) on Saturday were bad moves for each. CNN and TVOne political analyst Roland S. Martin had a pretty apt point about this: Rahm Emanuel’s criticism of Hayward left Obama open for the same criticism. Protip: If you guys need a mental health break for a day, stay home. Even world leaders need to tune out for a few hours. And Hayward’s big problem is that hanging out near oil-bought yachts makes you look like an elitist jerk – not that he took the break at all. source

  • I guess the word ‘maverick’ is out of vogue. But I would say he’s courageous. He’s willing to risk political capital in order to solve problems. Everybody scratches their head about it, because such a trait is unusual.
  • GOP consultant John Weaver • Regarding Sen. Lindsey Graham and his ability to put his political stature on the line to actually work with people. The climate change thing has him angry because he spent a lot of time putting himself on the line. It’s led to a tight relationship with the White House, even if it is a little biting at times. “Rahm has a good relationship with him,” said press secretary Robert Gibbs. “The president has a good relationship with him. Politics: Rahm Emanuel wants to take his Chicago politics … to Chicago

  • He wants to be mayor of the Windy city someday. Dude dropped the hint to Charlie Rose last night, saying he would run if the current mayor, his buddy Richard M. Daley, chose not to run again. But he hopes Daley does. Emanuel has $1.2 million in his coffer for a run like this, and would know whether Daley plans to retire in February. He’s promised his services to Obama, by the way, for two years, but that could be extended. source
