  • Okay, yeah, this will work. This will definitely work. Just need to write ‘tablet’ on this little strip of masking tape here and I’m golden. Oh, come on, you piece of #&*#! Just stick already!
  • “Steve Jobs” • In a pitch-perfect Onion article titled “Frantic Steve Jobs Stays Up All Night Designing Apple Tablet.” Wouldn’t it be awesome if Steve Jobs promised unbelievable things then only worked on them the night before, like he was the world’s worst procrastinator? We’d still buy his stuff. source

Tech, U.S.: January 27 promises to be the most exciting day we’ve ever seen

  • morning Apple announced a vaguely worded “special event” will take place on the morning of the 27th, which will likely be whatever this slate thingy is. Nerds are excited.
  • evening Obama, after nearly angering “Lost” fans by picking the day of the show’s season premiere, will have his State of the Union on the 27th. The GOP has their claws out.

Tech: Former Apple marketing guy: They used controlled info leaks

  • The way it works is that a senior exec will come in and say, ‘We need to release this specific information. John, do you have a trusted friend at a major outlet? If so, call him/her and have a conversation. Idly mention this information and suggest that if it were published, that would be nice. No e-mails!’
  • Former Apple Senior Marketing Manager John Martellaro • Regarding how Apple lets information about its products – like a certain slate-type thing that a bunch of people are freaking about – leak to the press. Essentially, it won’t leak on its own, but the leaks are controlled and totally part of the plan to build hype around the product. And if you haven’t noticed, it largely works like a charm. source

Tech: The frickin’ iSlate (or whatever Apple calls it) is coming. Maybe.

  • The Wall Street Journal says March. Are you a nerd with a predestined affection towards devices with no buttons? Do you like breathlessly waiting for months for things, turning rumor into fact in the process? Well, good news for you. The WSJ says the machine, which may or may not get released in January, is heading into stores in March, just in time for your rent check to burn a hole in your pocket.
