Politics: Obama goes on Fox News, has a hard time getting a word in

  • You know what? It wasn’t so much the questioning that kept Obama off Fox News all these months. It was the interruptions. Bret Baier seemingly wouldn’t let Obama finish a question with a complete answer. “I know you don’t like the filibuster,” Baier put it, but this interview was tough to watch simply because Baier wouldn’t go with the flow. However, and Time makes a good point in this regard: “But I give Fox News credit for not letting Obama turn the interview into an infomercial for Democratic health care reform. Aren’t we all a little tired of those?” Agreed, but there are ways to do it without cutting Obama off. source

Politics: Shh. Dennis Kucinich has something to say. Pay attention!

  • Did Dennis Kucinich get the UFO kickback? Tomorrow, Congress’ strangest member could announce a profound changing of mind on a bill he has fought against because it doesn’t go far enough. Obama went to Kucinich’s district for a health care rally on Air Force One over the weekend, and it could’ve changed Denny’s mind. Or maybe not. Either way, dude has more attention on him than ever before. source

Politics: Bret Baier’s freaking: Obama’s gonna show up on Fox News

  • The president hasn’t shown up on Fox News in ages. President Obama may not be getting interviewed by Hannity or Glenn Beck, but he will get some prime attention from Bret Baier on “Special Report” tomorrow. Howard Kurtz of the Washington Post has a lot of fun with the piece, saying, “He must really want to pass that health-care bill.” Well, yeah. Might as well try. source

U.S.: Who won’t vote for the Senate bill in the House, anyway?

  • Among the people voting no: Dennis Kucinich. Not socialist enough for you, dude? As of right now, CNN estimates that 200 representatives will vote against the Senate bill for sure, including at least one Democrat who voted for the original bill (Luiz Gutierrez of Illinois). Six Democrats could switch from yes to no if their concerns aren’t allayed, including prior sticking point Bart Stupak (who wants changes on abortion funding). It’s gonna be a photo finish. source

Politics: One option to get Obamacare through: Sleight-of-hand

  • It’s more insider and process-oriented than most people want to know. But I like it, because people don’t have to vote on the Senate bill.
  • House Speaker Nancy Pelosi • On an option she’s considering to ensure the passage of the health-care bill. With this process, the bill would fall under a “self-executing rule,” which would assume the bill passed while a more popular piece of legislation was voted on. The idea would be to allow for passage of the Senate bill without pinning anyone’s name on the legislation. Even though this is a commonly-used tactic, Republicans are crying foul, calling it unconstitutional. Pelosi, BTW, wants the bill passed by the end of the week. Good luck with that; you’re gonna need it. source

Politics: Obama says “screw deadlines,” reworks his trip around health care

  • 03/18 the deadline Obama gave Congress to get health care passed, so he could go to Indonesia and Australia
  • 03/21 Obama’s new deadline, as a result of Congress deciding not to pass it on his personal schedule source
