Gallup’s latest poll of generic candidates favors the GOP big time. While there’s a difference between John McCain and Sharron Angle, the fact of the matter is that the most recent result is the most extreme showing in the 69-year history of this particular poll. And the lead has doubled in recent weeks, too. Which leads one to think Democrats are going to be screwed in November.
10%the lead over “Democratic candidate” in the latest poll
7%the lead in the same generic poll as of two weeks ago
5%the lead in the same generic poll as of one month ago source
We are going to take a look at them and see whether the option is there or not, but it’s a decision she (Murkowski) has to make. There is an option I know of.
A staffer for Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski • On the possibility that Sarah Palin’s most hated enemy will take her campaign out of the Republican Party if she loses to Joe Miller. Murkowski was viciously attacked by Palin in the days prior to the election and still has a ton of money left in her coffers, so she can afford it. There’s a backstory to the Palin thing, too. Frank Murkowski, Lisa’s dad, snubbed Sarah when appointing Lisa to the seat. Later, Palin unseated the elder (and then-unpopular) Murkowski in the 2006 gubernatorial campaign. source
The solution isn’t just to paralyze government. Vote for us because you couldn’t possibly vote for them? That’s not enough. It may win some seats, but it won’t take you where you want to be.
Florida Senate candidate Marco Rubio • Appearing to make a break from the Modern Tea Party script. Why’s that? Well, uh, Charlie Crist went independent and turned Rubio’s plan to be a hard-line conservative candidate upside down. So now he has to say things like this to appease the moderates that Crist is going to win over in the election because he didn’t give in. Remember, guys, the Marco Rubio you’re voting for isn’t the one who says things like this. It’s the one who gave this speech at CPAC. He only moderated himself out of necessity. source
First of all, this is real America. The people who detached themselves from New York are all of a sudden embracing New York.
New York Rep. Peter King • Criticizing his fellow Republicans for pushing the rhetoric against the Park51 building (a.k.a. the “Ground Zero Mosque”) way too far. King is against the building, but, like many people in the New York metro area, thinks that the controversy is being used to score political points rather than take a serious interest in a big NYC issue. Fellow Rep. Jerrold Nadler (who has been one of the center’s biggest supporters) agrees: “It’s disgusting. It is an attempt to exploit for purely political motives a sensitive issue. And to exploit people they obviously don’t really care about.” Well-put. source
I’ll fight with everything I’ve got to stop those who would gamble your Social Security on Wall Street. Because you shouldn’t be worried that a sudden downturn in the stock market will put all you’ve worked so hard for — all you’ve earned — at risk.
Barack Obama • Making a bold claim that the GOP wants to destroy Social Security by privatizing it – and that they’ll have the ammo to do so if you vote for them in 2010. It’s part of a Democratic campaign started by DNC chair Tim Kaine with ties around the 75th anniversary of the venerable American institution. Is he right? Is he wrong? Who knows. All we know is that it’s an interesting tactic. source
