U.S.: Lame: Government pins increases in drug use on marijuana

  • Isn’t it weird how the government still plays the anti-pot line? See, in the latest version of the annual National Survey on Drug Use and Health, illicit drug use among the populace is up approximately 0.7 percent in 2009, to 8.7 percent. The study says the increase “was also driven in large part by the use of marijuana.” National Drug Control Policy Director Gil Kerlikowske seems to be convinced that marijuana’s possible medicinal effects don’t make it medicine, but continue to make it “an entry drug.” Whatever. More numbers:
  • 21.2%of young adults screwed with illicit drugs in 2009, which is very high
  • <50%of young adults think that pot is harmful – the lowest level since 2002
  • 23.3% of all people use tobacco products, a new all-time low source

  • » Why them? It’s another front of the drug war. Drug lords have turned to trafficking humans, extorting them, forcing them to smuggle drugs through the border and sometimes having them work as hitmen. While this dumpage of bodies at a ranch in Tamaulipas state is massive, it’s not the only one that’s taken place. In May, 55 were found in Guerro state and another 51 were found on the outskirts of Monterrey in July. Four words for the people who do this: Scum of the earth.

  • We take very seriously when our employees are harmed, whether the intention was to harm U.S. employees or not. The question of whether this represents some ratcheting up of the drug war will depend on the reason behind the killings.
  • Deputy assistant Secretary of State in charge of Mexico Roberta S. Jacobson • Regarding the killings of a U.S. consular aide (along with her husband) in Mexico. Another consular employee’s husband was also killed and her children wounded. If it turns out that this killing was a conscious attempt to ratchet up the drug war in Mexico, we could be seeing some crazy stuff going down. source
