Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy never lost an election. After going missing Wednesday morning, the Indian president was found with the wreckage of his helicopter this morning. I don’t want my children or the people I consider family to be in a place where there are snitches.
Phoenix woman Angela Simpson • Describing the nature of the events that led her to allegedly violently murdering Terry Neely. The woman admits to torturing, murdering and dismembering him (and those are only surface details) because he apparently once snitched on somebody a long time ago. Sickening. • source
There are moral arguments, philosophical arguments on both sides, bioethical arguments on both sides, even medical and public health arguments on both sides.
Montana State Solicitor Anthony Johnstone • On the coming court case based around Robert Baxter, a 76-year-old truck driver with lymphocytic leukemia whose request for a lethal injection was refused by his doctor. (Baxter died last year.) Montana’s an interesting state for a case like this to take place: Their constitution leans libertarian, and personal rights court cases in the state have shown a history of later being replicated by the Supreme Court. In his miserable, protracted death, Baxter may just produce a better end of life for thousands of Montana residents. • source
I just got home. I was out last night. I got home just now, and everybody’s dead. … My whole family’s dead. It looks like they’ve been beaten to death.
Guy Heinze Jr. • In the 911 call he made Saturday morning in the wake of finding his family dead. The Brunswick, Ga. resident was arrested Sunday for having drugs (including marijuana), evidence tampering and obstructing justice. He’s not yet a suspect, although he hasn’t been ruled out. • source
We are doing our very best to get through this show, but right now it’s very hard.
Blink-182 bassist/singer Mark Hoppus • On playing a show in Hartford, Conn. last night, almost immediately after DJ AM’s death. The band sang a song in honor of their fallen comrade, who was especially close with drummer Travis Barker, with tears rolling down their eyes. This sounds like one of the saddest sights ever. Both Barker and Goldstein shared in the plane crash tragedy last year, which killed many of their friends even though they survived. • source
He had reportedly been drug-free for 11 years. The NYC Medical Examiner’s office is reporting that the cause of Adam Goldstein’s death is currently unclear. Bottles of prescription medications and drug-smoking paraphernalia were found near the DJ’s body. A painful, tough sort of irony: Goldstein was to be one of the stars of “Gone Too Far,” a drug-abuse intervention show on MTV. No word on whether the show will still air. source
Trauma like this is deeply painful to us all. Once again, this community is visited by senseless violence and tragedy upon aspiring young minds from our campus.
Virginia Tech President Charles Steger • In an e-mail regarding the deaths of David Lee Metzler and Heidi Lynn Childs, who were found slain outside a local campground popular with students. Virginia Tech has had lots of tragedy and bizarre death in its recent history. Beyond the 2007 school shooting which killed 32, a student was beheaded on campus by a classmate earlier this year. • source
