Politics: Max Headroom: Ron Paul’s feeling pretty good after CPAC, guys

  • Ron Paul makes his victory lap: If there was one guy who came out of CPAC looking better than he did going in, it was Paul, whose straw-poll win gave him some momentum as he went on “Morning Joe” this morning. Paul, always one to speak his mind, interestingly puts many Tea Partiers in the same camp as traditional Republicans for not going all the way with their anti-tax beliefs. Our favorite part of the clip is where Joe Scarborough brings up military spending, with Paul being very careful to emphasize that “defense spending” is a misnomer.
  • Barbara Bush mocks John Boehner Nothing like looking back at family history to get the waterworks going, which Jenna Bush Hager and her famous grandparents, George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush, are more than happy to do. But what wasn’t expected is Barbara’s goofy rip on the house speaker, where she says to George, during one emotional scene, “You could be Speaker of the House!” LOL.
  • Did she have a stroke? In one of the more unfortunate clips to go viral in the past week or so, KCBS reporter Serene Branson had an unfortunate post-Grammy moment where she started talking in gibberish live on the air. Unfortunately for those who made fun of her, she was possibly having a stroke-like medical crisis, so now you should feel guilty for making fun of her, monsters.

Politics: Barbara Bush (Dubya’s daughter) joins campaign for gay marriage

  • It seems like only yesterday: It was 2004, and George W. Bush proposed a constitutional gay marriage ban in all fifty states as a reelection issue, under the supervision of his campaign manager Ken Mehlman. Now Mehlman is openly gay, Bush has said he has no interest in politics, and his daughter is cutting commercials for New Yorkers for Marriage Equality. Maybe things do have a way of working out in the end? source

Politics: Sarah Palin invokes class warfare in ripping Bushes

  • Let’s say you’re Sarah Palin and you just got criticized by a former first lady. How would you handle the criticism? Well, in Sarah Palin’s case, this is how: “I don’t want to concede that we have to get used to this kind of thing, because i don’t think the majority of Americans want to put up with the blue-bloods — and i want to say it with all due respect because I love the Bushes — the blue bloods who want to pick and chose their winners instead of allowing competition.” She said that on Laura Ingraham’s show yesterday. So, to be clear, she just ripped on a former president and first lady for being privileged because they suggested she was unqualified to be president. Check. source

Politics: Sarah Palin’s new enemy: Barbara Bush suggests she stays in Alaska

  • I sat next to her once, thought she was beautiful and I think she’s very happy in Alaska — and I hope she’ll stay there.
  • Former First Lady Barbara Bush • Saying something basically designed to piss off Sarah Palin. Bush, most recently in the news for this strange number, was interviewed (along with her husband) by Larry King in an interview to air Monday. George the elder, for his part, likes some of the Tea Party’s ideas but is confused by what the party is and their plans “to get Republicans in Congress to do something.” source

Politics: Great: George W. Bush has disgusting life anecdote to share

  • Sometimes there are stories that just leave us without words. Sometimes we see something and think of all the ramifications and just can’t fathom the right words to say. Sometimes, we’re just so disturbed by the ramifications of the letters (in this case, “She said to her teenage kid, ‘Here’s the fetus.'”) that we don’t feel like posting anything about a topic and just leaving it alone for the rest of eternity. Then we keep in mind who said them (George W. Bush) and remind ourselves of the heft that those words carry because of the person who said them, and submit them to you. George W. Bush’s mom (you know, former first lady Barbara Bush) showed her son her miscarried fetus. We can’t imagine what ways that screwed him up, even if he says it didn’t. source

U.S.: The Bush twins are keeping the secret service busy still

  • Despite their dad being out of office, the service is still on their backs. Having given the Secret Service “fits” during their dad’s presidency – Jenna, for example, running through red lights trying to lose the agents following her – you think they’d be glad to be rid of her. However, just before W. left office, he signed an executive order giving them coverage for an unspecified period of time. It’s not uncommon – Bill did it for Chelsea – but considering all the trouble Jenna and Barbara took to get rid of them, you’d think they’d want to be rid of the service. Guess not. source
