Culture: Arnold Schwarzenegger had two kids by two women in one week

  • 09/27/97 the birthdate of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s youngest son with wife Maria Shriver
  • 10/02/97 the birthdate of Arnold’s son with his former housemaid; her husband left her three weeks later source
  • » This makes things even more awkward: According to birth records released regarding Mildred Patricia Baena’s child with the former governor, he was born less than a week after Maria Shriver had a child of her own. The actor has supported the child since his birth. The superstar actor, who is taking this hard, “is doing everything he can to take full responsibility to take all of the spotlight off his children and wife,” according to a CNN source close to Schwarzenegger. Still though, it’s kinda tough to do so with this kind of scandal. This is pretty weird, right?

Politics: Maria Shriver asks for “respect and privacy” after revelations

  • Maria Shriver breaks her silence: With news of her split from Arnold in part due to his having a child out of wedlock, Maria Shriver has finally broken her silence (at least a little) on the couple’s recent separation. “This is a painful and heartbreaking time,” she said. “As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment.” source

Culture: On Arnold Schwarzenegger’s mind-blowing out-of-wedlock bomb

  • So yeah, that was kind of an atomic bomb of a news story TMZ just dropped, eh? It says a lot that the revelation that Arnold Schwarzenegger had a child out of wedlock would be shocking if he was just a movie star. (Over a decade ago, but still.) Problem is, though, he’s a former California governor, and as a result, the standard is way higher. Plus, he was married to a Kennedy! Anyway, here’s the apology: “I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family,” he said. “There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.” Considering he’s done with political life, will this hurt his career going forward? Or will his now-revived movie career survive the revelation? (photo via the Port of San Diego‘s Flickr page) source

Culture: “Governator” to remain a topical term

  • The word “Governator” combined two worlds: the world of politics and the movie world. And [this cartoon] brings everything together. It combines the governor, the Terminator, the bodybuilding world, the True Lies
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger • Speaking about “The Governator,” an upcoming project he’s doing with comic book icon Stan Lee. Slated for release next year, you’ll be able to both buy “The Governator” comic book, and watch “The Governator” cartoon show. The project features Arnold as the protagonist, who after completing his term in office, decides to build a secret crime-fighting base under his home in Brentwood. Two questions: Will this fictional narrative acknowledge the fact that Schwarzenegger was, to be generous, an ineffective (and by the end quite unpopular) governor? And more importantly, when are we going to get the “Comeback Kid” Bill Clinton video game franchise we’ve so passionately desired?  source

U.S.: Why Jerry Brown’s California state hiring freeze likely means nothing

  • Davis The recalled governor pushed a hiring freeze on the state in 2001, but made some exceptions for certain departments. Those departments hired 6,500 more people in just six months. Oops.
  • Ah-nold During his time in office, he also enforced a hiring freeze, but allowed exceptions for state workers approved by the governor’s office – around 10,000 of them in his final year of office.
  • Brown Now, Jerry Brown plans to do the same thing – with the same loophole as Schwarzenegger. Stop us if you think you’ve heard this one before. Actually, we’ll just stop ourselves. source
  • » One thing Brown won’t be doing, though: The California governor quietly killed a lawsuit put in by Schwarzenegger that would have cut state worker pay to minimum wage during unresolved budget crises. Brown’s office, however, didn’t make a big deal about this. It’s also worth noting that the hiring freeze contains no specifics in terms of how much it’ll actually save.

Politics: Arnold Schwarzenegger: I lost $200 million being governor

  • In all it is probably more than $200 million. But I’m not sorry. It was more than worth it.
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger • Explaining the overall cost for him to be the California governor. We’re not exactly sure how that cost breaks down, but we’re guessing it has something to do with the number of movies he had to turn down while playing politician. That said, though, he notes that the bigger cost was what it did to his family. “There is a lot there that needs to be repaired,” he said. He noted that he was better about it in his second term than his first, but during that first term, he would leave home for weeks at a time. At least you weren’t recalled. source

Politics: What’s the difference between Meg Whitman and the Governator?

  • The video speaks for itself, so we’ll keep our commentary brief: this is one of the most effective campaign ads we’ve ever seen. Absolutely brutal. Keep in mind, Californians really, really don’t like Schwarzenegger (he’s got a 28% approval rating as of last month). source

U.S.: Arnold, California legislature finally reach deal on budget

  • 3 months without a budget, but with a lot of tightrope, in California source
  • » Keeping it under wraps: Legislative officials plan to reveal the details of the plan later this week but are currently keeping it hush-hush. You guys have already had to wait since July 1 for a firm budget plan, so what’s a few more days? You bastards are so impatient.
