  • About the video This is a great example of a town hall protest: This Marine vet, David William Hedrick, attacks Congressman Brian Baird. During the speech, he compares Nancy Pelosi to a Nazi wearing an S.S. armband. The guy’s very proud of his statement, and says so in the video’s description. We feel like we saw a video like this, with similar arguments, weeks ago.

  • Why the poll? The video got us to thinking. We can’t be alone in thinking that maybe this card has been a bit overplayed. It seems like, instead of pushing forth the Democratic process, so many people are doing this that it’s reached a saturation point. Whether it’s organic or astroturfing, it’s been getting play for weeks. Are we wrong? Are we right? Let us know. Vote.

Tech, U.S.: That “Skanks in NYC” blogger broke an obscure cyberstalking law

  • Could we have a less vapid free speech hero, please? When NYC fashion school grad student Rosemary Port anonymously posted her harsh diatribes against model Liskula Cohen, she broke the law. The obscure cyberstalking law she broke says she could be sentenced to up to two years in jail and fined for using the internet “without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person.” It’s the kind of law that angers bloggers like us because it completely goes against free speech. We can’t imagine the idea of Port fighting this law up to the Supreme Court over calling some girl she didn’t like a “ho.” It makes our brain hurt. source

  • The slogan being used by a series of ads in California • In an attempt to retaliate against Nevada’s recent efforts to woo businesses away from the state. Nevada’s ads were a bit harsh, admittedly – they suggested that the state budget was a bunch of flying pigs, and legislators were monkeys – but Nevada also didn’t have an embarrassing budget crisis lately. In case Oregon’s interested, we totally have a great ad campaign for them: “Oregon: We didn’t give you an IOU.” • source

U.S.: The Justice Dept. wants to investigate Bush era prisoner-abuse cases

  • Talk about a can of worms. Just when it seemed like the CIA under the Bush administration would get a pass, the Justice Department has sent recommendations to Attorney General Eric Holder for investigations into nearly a dozen prisoner abuse cases. The cases are mainly based in Iraq and Afghanistan. Obama has said he’d like to look forward, not back, but the investigations may force his hand at a bad time. source

  • The clients are not just harmless victims. They knew what they wanted to evade. But they trusted the bank that it would work. Now we have to correct that.
