Tech: This quote by an Microsoft exec about Vista gives us pause

  • Vista today, post-Service Pack 2, which is now in the marketplace, is the safest, most reliable OS we’ve ever built. It’s also the most secure OS on the planet, including Linux and open source and Apple Leopard. It’s the safest and most secure OS on the planet today.
  • Microsoft Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner • Who just claimed Vista was the most reliable operating system on the market. Yeah, sure. It’s that kind of talk that makes our dreams of a real relationship with Lauren near-impossible. • source

Culture, Tech: Some old lady who used to be in a popular band is complaining

  • I believe that computers have taken over the world. I believe that they have in many ways ruined our children. I believe that kids used to love to go out and play.
  • Stevie Nicks • On technology and the way that it’s taken over the world. Hey, Stevie, we thought the same thing about Fleetwood Mac, but we were powerless to stop it. So we think you should just keep quiet and let technology take over the world. You had your chance. • source

Biz, Tech: Amazon: A glitch caused gay book-blocking. Twitter: #glitchmyass

  • There was a glitch with our sales rank feature that is in the process of being fixed. We’re working to correct the problem as quickly as possible.
  • Patty Smith • Amazon Director of Corporate Communications, on the reason books were being marked “adult” in the search results. She would not go further into why gay-themed books appeared to be getting pulled more than other books. Currently trending on Twitter are the hashtags #AmazonFail and #glitchmyass, which might hint as to how users may feel about the company’s honesty right now. • source

Tech: A 17-year-old was behind the StalkDaily Twitter hack

  • I did this out of boredom, to be honest. I usually like to find vulnerabilities within websites and try not to cause too much damage, but start a worm or something to give the developers an insight on the problem and while doing so, promoting myself or my website.
  • Mikeyy Mooney • Who claims he basically did it for purposes of self-promotion, shooting himself in his 17-year-old foot. Good job, jerk. We hate you and your cruddy Web site. • source

Biz, Tech: Apple fans, have no fear: Steve Jobs still runs the Apple roost.

  • At least that’s what the Wall Street Journal says. Jobs, who took a medical leave in January (which immediately sent their stock tumbling initially), is apparently still running key parts of the company from home, even if he’s not so heavily focused on the day-to-day operations at the moment. He’s still on target for coming back in June, either way. source
