Politics: Joe Miller WILL NOT CONCEDE that Lisa Murkowski beat him

  • It’s never over until the count is done. I would encourage people to recognize that 255,000 votes were cast in the US Senate race and right now what we have is about a 2000 vote difference. Less than one percent.
  • Alaska Senate candidate Joe Miller • Holding on a little too closely to the belief that he still has a shot in the race. The AP called the race for Murkowski today, making her the first candidate since Strom Thurmond in 1954 to win a race on write-in ballots alone. Murkowski hasn’t declared victory today but she is expected to soon. Miller, however, whose campaign contested 8,153 ballots, is still behind by more than .5 percent, which means that if he wants a recount, he’s gonna have to pay for it himself. Look man, we understand you weren’t expecting Murkowski to win. But your cavalier attitude towards your opponents hurt you down the stretch. source

World: A modest proposal: Give ShortFormBlog Ireland’s bailout money

  • Hey, if Ireland doesn’t want any of this bailout money, give it to us. For days now, the European Union – and now Britain proper – have been pushing to give Ireland lots of money to ensure its solvency. However, Ireland doesn’t seem to have any interest in taking it, at least right now. So, we’d like to offer a proposal to the European Union. Give us the bailout money. We’d use the money to build our own country (tentatively titled ShortLandia) where we’d build an army of coffee shops and have dozens of bloggers working away, producing short content for the masses of other countries throughout the world. It’d be communism. Except in content farm form. And instead of eating soviet bread, we’d be drinking ShortLandia lattes. With an extra kick. So you don’t fall asleep and prevent another piece of content from hitting the Intersphere. source

Politics: TSA validates feeling up American citizens to stop evil terrorism

  • If we have an individual who opts out of the advanced imaging technology, let’s say Abdulmutallab … had opted out, thinking [he’s] not going to receive a thorough pat-down so [he could] get on that flight, and if that had been successful on Christmas Day, I think we might be having a different dialogue this afternoon and in the public.
  • Transportation Security Administration chief (a.k.a. busywork creator) John Pistole • Explaining the rationale for doing the thorough security checks. Now, mind you, underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was coming to the country from FREAKING NIGERIA AND AMSTERDAM and would not have been under the jurisdiction of the TSA until he got over American soil. So, again, why are TSA agents having to feel up regular people going on domestic flights? And how come the significant intelligence against Abdulmutallab didn’t stop him from getting on that plane? Intelligence almost nailed the guy. The TSA did nothing. source
