Tech: Famous first words: Nokia VP quits before being ahead

  • I am committed, perhaps even obsessed, with getting Nokia back to being number one in high-end devices.
  • Nokia VP Anssi Vanjoki • In a blog post he wrote soon after starting in his position with the company way back in July (for those playing at home, it’s September). He’s already submitted his resignation. Why? Nokia is currently in a state of disarray because they haven’t really done anything stupidly innovative in a long time. The Nokia N8 is a start, but it isn’t on the market yet, so we can’t judge. As for Vanjoki, he doesn’t seem so obsessed with getting Nokia back to the top anymore. “The time has come to seek new opportunities in my life,” he said. source

Offbeat: Pedobear: Misguided police department makes 4chan’s day

County Sheriff’s Department has warned parents to keep an eye out for this bear, who is described as having a “lecherous nature” and as having been adopted by real pedophiles as a symbol of um, being pedophiles. The article goes on to say that, “Although there have been no reported sightings of the image on the Central Coast, individuals dressed in the bear costume and car decals have been seen in Southern California.” Police don’t understand the Internet! source

  • Haker “Iraq Resistance” • Regarding his status as the guy behind the “Here You Have” worm, which made many corporate IT department not-fun places to be on Thursday. He’s an anti-U.S. type, if you didn’t figure it out by the handle. He also has a video where he notes his actions are not as bad as those of Koran-burning-wannabe Terry Jones. Considering that his worm was responsible for as much as 10 percent of the spam on the entire Internet on Thursday morning, we’re sure some network engineers would disagree. source
